What is the turbo used in your stage 2 kit?

Kevin,

Will the new K24 Hybrid flow more air than a normal K24 or is the objective just lower spool RPM? If so at approx 1.1 bar how much more will it flow than a stock K24

Thanks

Craig

The ECU will limit the Peak airflow.. If your ECU is tuned for 1.1 bars, you won't exceed that amount/pressure. However, with this new wheel you will spool up the rotating assy sooner, if it is up to speed faster you will have your 1.1 bars of boost on tap sooner..

Kevin, I'm amazed how fast you're able to engineer new wheels for differing demands.

If this new turbo arrangement is a K26/27, and your stage 2 turbo a K16/24; what is the delta between the initial rpm boost build-up between the two? Just trying to understand the compressor/turbine comparison.

Thnx, Jon

Kevin,

My question is for the benefit of others and the same as Y65's
Here is my understanding (and please correct me if I am wrong)
Popular turbo flow rates: (factory Porsche 996TT turbos)
K16 == 25 lbs of air
K24 == 30 lbs of air
Your new turbos flow how much air?

This will help others understand HOW MUCH you have been able to accomplish.

You could also mention some of the other popular turbos such
as the ones on the GT700 kit
GT800's us GT30's, etc.

TIA,

MK

How would you compare these k16 hyflow retrofit to stock X50's flashed?

How would you compare these K16 hylow retrofits to your other stages?

Thanks,
Ryan

Jon, the new K26/27 is designed for the new Stage 4 tuning kit (I know, I know, I have mentioned it before but..) It's not apples to apples, Stage 4 has larger valves and camshafts.. When one looks at designing a turbocharger, engine RPM is determined.. We are going to be running north of 8K I needed to design a turbine wheel that would be large enough to meet those demands.. The K24 HyFlow and stock K24 turbine wheel is alot smaller vs the new Stage 4 wheel..

The compressor stage of the turbocharger must be able to keep up with the pressure levels that I need to run.. I have noticed over the years that many people feel that they need more wheel than what is actually needed.. It's a moot point for myself. I have 3 compressor wheels that are on the table ready to be installed (CNC into the compressor housings)

To get back to your question I am hoping to get good boost (1bar) with a full zero clearanced compressor stage at 3500 RPM's.

Ryan, when you say K16 Hyflow retrofit.. Please realize that the K16 turbine wheel and turbine housing is tossed on a pile.. The stock GT2 or X50 compressor wheel is used.. Basically one would have a exact clone of a K24 turbocharger... The benifit with the K24 HyFlow wheel is that it will spool quicker than the X50 cars.. Boost output will be the same.. It will just arrive sooner.. With it coming in sooner your engine will have more torque developing sooner..

Again with the new K24 HyFlow turbine wheel the shaft speed will be higher per every engine RPM.. If the shaft speed is higher, this means that the compressor wheel is developing more air/boost sooner..

Makes sense on apples Vs oranges explanation. 1 bar at 3500 rpm is a major improvement over my friends X50 stock K24 setup. 1 bar is consistently past 4K RPM for him.

Jon,

Simply upgrading the stock X50 k24 software will help your friend out a lot, if he hasn't done that already...

I never saw 1.0 bar on my stock x50. Should I be seeing that?

Kevin,

It would be helpful to me as well as others if you could go through your stages and the appoximate hp level of each. I looked at your website and could not find this information.

I am an EVO customer but I have great respect for Protomotive and what Kevin is doing at UMW. I thought we are all on the same team here? I don't get the bashing of other tuners?

Thanks Kevin,

Buddy

Well my Stage kits have been posted before on Rennlist..

Here is the dyno sheet for Stage 3 pump gas:
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...=369387&page=2

Stage 2 Z/C threads on Rennlist are:

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turbo-forum/314712-dyno-comparison-umw-stg2-zc-vs-stg4.html

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turbo-forum/298034-zero-clearance-the-numbers-are-in-0-60-0-100-60-130-et-trap.html

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turbo-forum/307040-dyno-numbers-are-in-a-lesson-in-power-under-the-curve.html

This past summer I have added a 5 bar FPR and have tuned for some blended unleaded race gas. This kit has every option that I offer for the Stage 2 tuning package with zero clearance, carbon airbox, headers, and Europipe Stage 2 loud.

The dashed line is Race gas, the solid line is west coast 92 pump gas.

Here is my flash upgrade for a stock K16 equipted car.. Dyno run was done on the same car, same day.. Pump 92.

The solid lines show my baseline runs on my '02 996TT.
