You know that's funny, I don't have any Idea how old is hamman7. But I'm not a punk nor an amateur. If you want a show there has to be a price. Hell yes I race hamman7, but is he willing to paid the price?

Tony

There really was no need to apologise, a 964 will outperform a 740 no question if the drivers are equal. I merely conceded that knowledge and experience of the road makes a big difference.

Hamann, no hard feelings of course. Everyone is entitled to their opinion even if I don't agree I am a moron, you moron.

Christer,
I am well aware that a BMW 740i will not outperform a 964. I`m no great shakes as a driver but on the track I`m usually faster than any BMW M model, wet or dry,on track and I have raced a 740i in my 944S2 and it was no match for that, the S2 is much slower than my C2.
Hamman7 suggested that the driver was the key here not the car and it is his talent rather than the 740i`s ability as a sports car that allowed him to keep up with 996tt`s. I know a 996tt in the hands of even an mediocre driver is quicker than my C2, hence anyone who is able to keep up with 996tt`s is likely to be faster than me - even if they are driving a BMW 740i ridiculous as it may seem.
The 996tt drivers all seem to back up Hamann7 claims and since there is no evidence to the contrary then I must assume the claims regarding his ability are true.
Of course it may be that opinions on his driving skills are relative to those of his peers in the 996tt`s.

And you thought you found a "more grown up board" hehe. I used to be on www.3si.org all the time. I had a '94 3000GT. Then I saw the light and bought a Porsche (actually I have two). Good luck with you 996TT. Sorry to hear about your VR-4. Yours was really nice.

About the Malibu roads --

For those who are trying to once again re-start the debate I thought we had ended. There are several roads where the lack of any kind of straight away more than about 20 feet long dimish the TT's edge over other cars. This combined with road knowledge "imagine knowing all 114 corners and the right speeds vs driving it for the fifth time in your life" -- make it quite possible for Hamann7 in a 740i sport to keep up with lots of cars which are superior.

As for which car is king of what or who can win at what -- I suggest you contact each other by PM and set up a contest.

xtrc,

What's the price? And what kind of car are you running?

I don't understand why people are always so obsessed with racing for money. Do you need money that badly?

Rather than talking **** to someone you don't know, if you want to find out for yourself why don't you come driving with us in the canyon sometime with Wilber, myself, and some others? You live in LA, and you're more than welcome to join us.

The lack of civility on this board is absolutely incredible. Just when I thought this thread was over....

So when I finally purchase a 996TT or GT2, will you 964/951 guys finally shut up?

Notice how all the insecure people on this board are the ones with the $20K or under Porsches....

A couple thousand bucks would not hurt anyone, It would only make it more interesting. There is only one thing right about what you said (besides all your wet dreams about being a good driver and keeping up with the 996TT’s). Yes the 20k below drivers are more insecure. We don’t have the wealth to buy a 996TT or a GT2 but one thing you can count on is that we’ll drive the cars to the limit, not like a bunch of delicate rich boys who are afraid to leave behind a 740i, Man I would have more respect for a M3 or M5, not the 740i. What a waste of time and money, let the guys with the turbos sell their cars and buy super 740i, from now on 740i will be the car to race in the GT1 class drop the other bastards. You are smoking drugs or anything are you? I don’t race with intoxicated people. You want a race you can have it, if you a race for pride I’ll give it to you free. I’m not afraid of racing, I’ve had more than 14 car collisions in my entire life (I’m not too proud of that) but I’ll make it fair maybe that way you learn how to keep your ego as well as your mouth under control. Azusa mountains up hill 20 miles from the baseline who ever make it first ends this thread, the other apologizes. I would if you win, I’ll shout my mouth and my pride. And my car is a 951 and I’m 42 years old, not something you couldn’t deal with in your 740i. Hey, I have an STS ,I could use that one to be fair. Your choice.

I don't have any problem believing you kept up with a 911, considering the circumstances, but you really can't claim that your car is as fast JUST because of that one instance.

Hey Guys...

No offense... I've had 4 Porsches. My latest being a 2001 Turbo.

This kid in my town was always bugging me about how fast his VR4 was... I was faster. But a few months later and a few dollars later (modding a VR4 costs less than Porsche brake pads) he was running high 11's.

The VR4 launches way nicer than the turbo, and despite it's weight... once the race is on it's all torque and horsepower. Its pretty easy for a VR4 to be modded on a budget to school a 996 Turbo in drag racing. Road course? Thats another story.

I've also see street legal civics that will school a 996 Turbo in the quarter mile... top speed? Handling? Forget it, the civics not doing it.

I personally have no problem admitting that a Turbo can be beat by a modded car... seriously... my 2002 Z06 out drags my turbo... and at under 120mph handles at least as well.

Notice how all the people attacking me are the 944 and 964 owners (you excluded).

Well geez, if I really had said that my BMW is superior to a 996TT, don't you think that the Turbo and GT2 guys would be berating me?

Instead, those are the guys backing me up. I wonder why... maybe it's because those guys can actually understand what I am saying. Maybe it's because they don't feel inadequate or insecure.

xtrc, you can talk all the **** you want, but why in the hell would I ever go out to Azusa when there is better air quality, roads, and people here in Malibu?

Come to think of it, what concerns me is that my POS BMW is more than 3-4X the replacement cost of your 951. Therefore, you have every incentive to go nuts and damage my car. After all, how much is another 951, $10-15,000? Same goes for your Seville STS. With a couple of thousand dollars, I bet you figure you can put a down payment on another 951. For me, what will a couple of thousand dollars get me? A muffler set for my 740?

FYI, I used to have an E39 M5. Don't talk about things you don't know. You only call my 740i a waste of money because you are the type of buyer who is stupid enough to buy a Cadillac "sports sedan," the STS. You wanna talk about a piece of ****? It's almost as ugly as your 951.

I don't understand why some of you guys have a stick shoved up your ***. If I thought my car was better than a 996TT or GT2, why am I getting one??? Have you ever asked yourselves that?

Oh WAIT A MINUTE, maybe that's why the 996 guys aren't on my case.

But of course, I would NEVER trade in my BMW for a 944...

To Mamon7 (sucker in Spanish) you are a character!!. I didn't say that I was so poor I could not buy or lease a BMW. I own 5 cars(sorry lease 2), they are not 139k cars, but a 740 is not out my league. At this moment I'm shopping for a 540 for my wife, what's the deal! your better because you think you have money, remember that anybody can buy a car like yours, all you need is good credit, some down payment and that’s it. Please give some respect to yourself, admit the truth! you have an overgrown ego (and a huge imagination). And don't write like that on rennlist, your making streetracing.com look refined. That's goes to prove that losers exist in all levels of life, from high class well educated wealthy people to imbeciles like you, who should get a job as sci-fi scrip writers. Dream on! this is the land of the free. Also, you don't have any idea of what your are talking about regarding 951's. There are guys who have spent as much as your 2000 bmw costs just in modifying a 951. These cars have no problem out performing, out handling a stock 996tt. You make my day hamman7, you are one kind of a funny guy. !Maybe I’ll see you in the next Malibu run. Who knows?

I've just finished reading this thread "cover to cover". Pretty entertaining. I have to say that I hear what Hamann7 is saying clearly. But I'm puzzled about what money has to do with driving ability or character, etc.
