Make an offer to Victoria. I want to get a manual boxster. Love her car, but I really want a stick.

OK, so the engine replacement started today. Had the car towed over to Mulligan Racing Development in Vista, CA.

The tow truck driver really enjoyed seeing our small Porsche collection. I rode in the tow truck cab, and the whole time he was thrilled to be towing the car and asking all about it... when we got to the shop, he thanked me for letting him tow the car and said he felt like he was in a parade, hauling the Porsche. (So much for that stupid "are you embarrassed to drive a 996" thread).

In the sceond picture below, you can see the hole through the block better. Right behind the IMSB.

I didn't cut open the oil filter on the motor, but did see some gold-colored flecks in the bottom of the housing. Not many though. The picture didn't come out that well.

Stripped most of the top stuff from the replacement motor (injectors, harness, AOS, etc.). Will put in a new AOS, and use the other stuff from my motor.

The engine cover release mod that I did last year came in handy. Battery was dead from having the car sit since the motor was blown in October. But I was easily able to open the cover using the relocated cable. Again, I highly recommend this simple procedure. Here's a link to my thread, for those who aren't familiar with it:

Ran out of time to finish dropping the motor... almost everything is disconnected and all that is left to do is disconnect the mounts.

I'm thinking you reuse the case and repair the hole with some plexiglass. Then you can watch the chain move

What is that string at the back, is it on it's period? Would certainly explain a lot

That's the pull-back spring mod. You pull the string really hard, and the car will go for up to 25 miles, based just on power provided by the spring.

Actually, it's the emergency engine cover release cable. I routed it up to just under the edge of the tail light, so it was easy to snag with a small hook to open the cover. Check out the link in my last post.

once your car is all done, I say we SoCal folks go on a group ride to give your car a celebratory shakedown run
