^^^ Jake, when you guys do that, any chance of putting a PDK in there too, make the shifts a little quicker compared to Tiptronic?

Nope, You can't pay me enough to "convert" anything with these cars. It's a quick way to end up with something that doesn't do anything well, and it sucks to own.
Its my job to blow up gearboxes, and while we have shredded many PDKs, we've never broken a tiptronic. They will take anything you throw at them.

M96/M97 are cheaper because no one wants them.
996es are cheaper because no one wants them.
Tips are cheaper because no one wants them.
Cabriolets are cheaper because no one wants them.

Woohoo, look at the great deals!

If Jake can’t break a Tip with too much torque, it likely can’t be done with an M96!

A C4, tip, cab is a real joy to work on... NOT!
The only thing worse is a Turbo variant of that!
When I pick the jobs that I take on to do myself, it won't be one of these!

My claim can be backed up simply by searching autotrader and craigslist. You'll notice the manual cars are advertised for a premium AND also sell for a premium.

Many of my friends are in the auto sales business and complain that you can't give away automatic 996's.

I'm sure the tiptronic is great in daily traffic. But the manual cars are more fun and will always sell for a premium. The 996 may be the last analogue Porsche and thus going forward, people will be buying it for the full analogue experience

I‘ll take one in silver or red please.
Since they want to give it away, I won’t be trading my manual.
My manual is my daily driver in 52 miles of mainly stop and go traffic.
Why a manual?
Because when the traffic ends, this old man gets to have fun!

At 58 my body forced me to give up my passion for baseball/softball. I played to excess. Then i drove a Porsche 6 speed 996 4s and i found my new passion. Eventually my body will force me to transition from a manual to an automatic, but until then i will tell the car when to shift.

So true...

I WISH 996 or 997.1 Turbo Tips were 2/3 of the price of 6MTs!! I certainly haven't found this to be the case, but smart guys are all over the place here posting up this 'information', so it has to be true, amirite??

A 997.1 Turbo Tip will get to 60 in 3.7 secs according to Porsche, which means it's .2-.3 faster than that- repeatedly. All day long... That's faster than a lot of modern "supercars". And the 6MT variant, but okay. I think Road and Track got it down to 3.4 even which is just stupid fast. And, it will still drive and handle like a 911. You would think for such a 's.h.i.t.e.' car they would be cheaper...

Let me guess- they're a different race than you too, so you can check that box huh? We all have "that friend" who supports our unfounded position.

Also, this 'premium' you're referencing is not really that significant and can be more than overcome by options, miles and condition of the car. I would go so far as to say a Tip car is going to be better taken care of than a 6MT in some instances, since the latter usually isn't the driving God they envision themselves to be and who knows what transmission and other engine issues (like overrevs) are hidden beneath. Tip 997.1 Turbos are still in the $80s for a nice one. Hardly "giving them away"...

The fact is, it's just not that bad of a transmission, especially when you LEARN to drive it. I track mine and my instructors repeatedly tell me they can't even tell when I'm down and upshifting at this point. I'm sorry you can't handle that, but it is what it is and most Tip owners will tell you such.

Got to love the "experts", with a handful of posts, that pop in here and try to correct the error of our ways. We've got another expert "helping" us to understand our IMSB and oil additives in another thread.

Anyone heard from Joey lately?

When did AT and CL start listing actual sales prices? I was actually searching for a TIP when my 6mt fell into my lap...

My god. I've never seen such denial in my life.

Folks, there is NOTHING wrong with an automatic car, but for enthusiasts to argue that a automatic 911 is as much fun and holds value as well as a manual 911 is crazy.

The manual transmission is an endangered species and manual cars sell for a premium in any sports car. It's basically common knowledge.

Buying an automatic 996 is kind of like hiring a pornstar to give you a handjob. Sure, it will be fun...but wouldn't you rather have paid a bit more for the "full" experience?

Would you agree that in 10-20 years from now, less people will even know how to drive a stick? So, an automatic might be more desirable to the masses down the road.
I love rowing through the gears but I may not enjoy it all the time down the road when I'm 70+ years old...You point of view suggest you're much younger than I.
