996 40th Anniversary Edition Registry & FAQ

Former Vendor
The vast majority of my purchasers are not forumites, many also don't even get online and it amazes me how many don't even have an email address.
Until the past 2-3 years we haven't seen that many 40AE cars, the ones we saw in the early days usually had IMSB failures and were very low mileage. There's probably 12-14 out there and I do hold the data in my ledgers. Some of these people want to keep the engine factory, which is something that we do not offer- no use and its a liability for us.
I don't know of one of these people that are on RL, but one may be a lurker here and may contact you.

Flat6 40AEs
The only one with a Flat6 engine that I recall in the registry is nr. 0759. That car was for sale last April in Orlando, FL and most recently was listed by a seller in Tucson, AZ back in Nov 2013 and the ad is still on Autotrader: http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...59929964&Log=0
I'm not sure whether it is still for sale because folks don't always take their sale listings down when they sell their cars. Anyway, here's what the seller says in his ad about the engine in that car, "...complete flat six innovations performer engine rebuild at a cost of $20,400.00..." It's a 3.8L engine.

Unrelated to Jake's engines, I'm having a problem with my center caps. The clearcoat is separating off the emblems and some sort of weird corrosion is eating little cracks in the aluminum or whatever the finish is. I'll post pics later.
I imagine 40AE center caps are difficult to come by?

40AE center caps
I just answered this same question for a new 40AE owner the other day, so here's what I told him.
"... the part # is 99636130312. I've attached the page out of the parts catalog, a photo of the box they'd come in, and a screen shot of probably one of the lowest prices out there right now (the web address is in the screen shot). They definitely are expensive. I bought a new set when I got my 40AE, then I also later bought a whole new set of the stock OEM wheels (that was way pricey) because my were suffering from corrosion and I tried to have them refinished to no avail. Anyway, some folks just buy the plastic center caps with the Porsche crest, others get chrome ones that look like the mirrored finish that the stock ones had, but those original stock ones were unique to this car and these wheels, which is I'm sure why Porsche charges so much. To me the wheels and center caps were so important to the look of the car that I wanted them to stay stock, so I bit the bullet and paid the hefty price. To each his own."

40AE nr. 0200
Hi, everyone - this morning I posted info about this car on the 40AE FB page but thought you also might find this interesting (if you didn't see it there already). Nr. 0200 just came up for sale. It's in Italy with just over 140,000km on the clock. It's interesting because the owner has the whole car covered in a black metallic protective wrap. I've seen this done on Panameras but never before on a 996. http://www.euroconnection-cars.com/s...an=1&carId=367

I'm torn on wraps. I love polished paint, but at the same time I'm constantly worried about rain, sun, birds, and bugs. They're something to be said for a vinyl wrap that can be thrown away if it gets too bad.

Clear bra for nr. 0711
Took way too long to do this, but had my 40th clear bra'd today. Look amazing! Kudos to Mark at Clear Auto Bra (St. Louis area expert). I posted a gallery on the 40AE FB page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...0308304&type=1

Just don't let it get too old.
Mine has been on since new, it is now slightly faded and very very very difficult to remove, like 1 square foot equals 1 hour to remove.

That is quite impressive Taz, can't see the lines... which always bugs me.
How long is "too long". 2 years? 5? Obviously tied to UV exposure... but I wonder what the benchmark is.
I bought a 40AE leather bra (cause she likes lingerie, but prefers to be nude) and only installed it to check fitment. I don't have any long road trips lined up to need it.... but it's a fun addition to the 40 Jahre stuff I have.

Would you mind sharing where you purchased the 40AE specific bra and what you paid?
Thanks!

I got lucky and picked up a 40th AE bra and the large suitcase all unused locally. I paid $225 which I thought was a great deal!
