Re: steroids...
Thespring only helps the first part of the stroke so max pedal force should not change, only percieved force.

Default 987 wow

Boxster S 987

Took the plunge...

Clutch assist spring out

Was a relatively Easy job. No need to remove any of the dash or air ducting.

All I needed was a Flat head screw driver and standard pliers

Took around 10 mins max

Results...

Feels like a completely new car. When launching It feels like a rocket, but also with So much more control.

Pedal isn't too heavy at all, easy to manipulate. Don't anticipate any problems while sitting in traffic etc

Big smile when driving

I would urge anyone reading this to do it immediately.

Yep did mine this weekend end 2001 996 C4.
Wife's car and she said it was FANTASTIC!!! I drove the car today and echo that response clutch is going to last much longer now because we won't be slipping it through the mushiness of the engagement point.

Default Improved Clutch Action Dramatically

Hi guys! Was wondering I anyone's clutch pedal was "loose" (moves maybe a 1/4 inch side to side and up and down) after doing this? My spring actually shattered, and had clearly been broken for a while as my clutch pedal was pretty heavy. But once it completely let go my clutch pedal had this looseness about it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Cool tip, thanks.

Try driving a 996 after being in a GT3 (a "real" one with a manual transmission ....)
Huge difference.

If you can observe the spring action while someone is pushing the clutch pedal, you'll be able to see that the spring completely dislodges from the mount when the pedal is fully depressed. I don't think the spring would be causing the issue you describe. Dunno.

Default Clutch Action

Ok guys,

I just did this mod, removing the clutch spring assist assy
For some reason I put my foot on the clutch pedal, just enough to rest on it, without pushing it in. While doing so, I feel a lot of vibration being transmitted through the pedal, is this normal, does it happen to everyone else?

+1 great upgrade, yes the pedal pressure is more but within a few trips the improvement far outweighed the increase in effort. Funny because in 2000 I bought a Boxster and brought it back to the dealer several times complaining about the clutch operation. At one point they even suggested replacing the clutch. I sold the car 7 months later to buy my 72 911; in hind sight it was the spring I dissliked the whole time

If you want an alternative spring to experiment with, this may work?
It is 15/16" diameter x 4" long x 0.148" wire .Part # SP9732. See EBay links below.
The stock spring is 75lbs/inch and about 4" long
The McMaster Carr spring # 9657k142 is 39lbs/inch but only 3-1/2" long.
The deficiency in length is a problem?
If so, check McMaster Carr #9657K136.
This is slightly larger diameter(1.25" vs 1")Is there space for the larger o.d.?
It is 57 lbs vs 39 (or 75lbs.for OEM)
Fully compressed it is longer than the short spring 2.81" vs 2.31" Is that 1/2" a problem?
You can buy just one spring in # 9657k136
or this?

Is the booster spring assembly needed at all?
Can I run without it completely?

I removed mine all together. It's certainly harder to engage but I dont commute with the car so its not a big issue. Try it, you can always go back.

Hello all, I am having a small problem with removing the canister. I have a 1999 C2, so it does not have the round clevis with pin and e-clip. It has the half open faced clevis with a double headed pin (I think). I removed the vent, put a nail in the hole and pushed clutch in. Do I just pop out the pivot point in the gold bracket and pull out the cartridge? I can't seem to see why I need pliers or a flat head screw driver for removal. It seems like I am missing something, like will this version of the canister just fall off the clevis pin? Do I need to pry it out? Sorry for asking I have read this thread a few times and I am just unclear on how the clevis part gets removed from canister end and the clutch pedal frame. Thanks in advance.

ok, i have just done it to my 997 and it is dramatically different....no sh*t... though i just removed the spring/cannister all together and it leaves me with a '56 ford 3 on the tree feeling... if ya know what i mean,,, little sloppy, but GREAT!, i will find a lesser spring to replace the old monster with and i am sure with just slight tension it will clean up the action, funny thing, now that i can feel the clutch quite a bit more it has me just slightly concerned that, at 35k km's it feels like it is biting a bit high, like 1/2 way, but that is probably ok, until now i have just been concerned with trying not to stall and making smooth shifts...a constant battle, in my mind anyway, so...film at 11...
