Ouch, I did not realize cruise control no longer works without the spring. It's not a feature I would ever use, but yikes.

Seriously? I couldn't live without cruise control... It pisses me off when people keep speeding up and slowing down on the highway

I think it's hit or miss. Unfortunately my clutch pedal has just enough play in it that it doesn't always come back and fully depress the cruise safety switch. I may improvise and put a rubber cap on the end of the safety switch to bridge the gap between the switch and the pedal.

Update: probably the most ghetto fix I've done to a car, but it was handy and worked perfectly.

I removed the cruise control safety switch from under the dash and took it apart. I noticed that the plunger mechanism has ridges on the internal shaft which appeared to allow the protrusion length of the plunger piece to be adjusted. I adjusted it to it's longest length. I then reassembled the switch and reinstalled under the dash.

<caution: next sentence may induce face palm> I then took on of my son's unused pencil erasers. It's the type that comes separate from a pencil and goes over the top of the old eraser. I cut off nearly all of the top solid section and put the remaining, mostly-hollow section over the plastic plunger of the cruise safety switch.

The above two actions bridged the gap just enough between the clutch pedal arm and the plunger of the safety switch. Additionally, I figure the soft rubber of the eraser will prevent any sort of excessive wear that could occur.

Good solution!

Not ghetto at all. I believe a few other members here did the same thing using a pencil eraser top!

So just so I understand, you need something at the tip of the pedal to touch the switch, correct? I believe mine is just touching it, but does it need to further protrude?

That's correct. The gap needs to be closed down enough for the clutch to touch and depress the safety switch. I think my solution of adjusting the plunger length on the safety switch might have been enough to do this, but I added the eraser top for added measure.

I'll likely reinstall the clutch booster spring if/when I can find a McMaster spring to use. Till then, I think this works quite well.

Let me know if you decide to order the McMaster spring. I wouldn't mind splitting the cost with you and a few others.

Haha...It's only ghetto if you can see it and it LOOKS ghetto (i.e. shaving creme cap...) If it holds up, that's all the better!
