I wanted to use the higher power mag charger so I bought this board that can detect fast charging devices and deliver sufficient current. Here it is with power wires and the USB coming off the other side

I couldn't find a nice compact box so I scrounged through my wife's collection of collections and found an adequate hold-me-over until I find a final solution. Cut the corner. Tape the leads. Not horrible.

Connect to the phone jack hiding in the center console. Specifically connected to the switched contact so there is no parasitic draw from the board when the car is off. I stole the male contacts from a Molex 4 pin power harness. Not shown is the tape added to cover the open metal and secure the wires to the connector.

As Yaz has indicated, '02 and later cars need a longer screw to secure the housing. I used a #10x1.5" sheet metal screw. It uses a phillips screw driver. I hope this doesn't imbalance the car.

And, calorie replacement therapy after stress testing the mount! It's all good! Thanks Yaz!
Now if Yaz could perfect the cupholder.... that would be nice.

Idea for easy way to protect the charger and provide a mount.

Use a piece of 1" shrink tubing to shrink around the charger for protection instead of trying to source an appropriate "box". And before shrinking the tubing around the charger/board, place a re-usable zip-tie along the charger/board to use for mounting/securing.

Shrink tubing has a lot of creative uses..

And here's the Mk1 screw and the 5mm longer version I'm sending out.

Oh I've been giving that plenty of thought. Ultimate Cup Holders has a pretty good option, but unfortunately doesn't work well for me. Passenger side fire extinguisher means I'd have to put it on the driver side. And anything larger than a can of soda would be hitting my calf.

There's another forum member with some interesting options using the storage shelf and ashtray insert (can't remember the name at the moment). I'll probably make an insert for the center console storage compartment, and modify the hinge so it can lock in the up position.

Finally got a chance to install mine.
Here‘s what it looks like in a Metropol Blue interior:

The install was very easy to do and this in SO much better than any other phone mount available.
@yaz996, you need to patent this design ASAP!

I plan to use this with my Dragy.
When I finally get around to buying an Aim Solo2, I‘ll mount it here.
I‘ll leave the current Rennline mount for my phone.

Well I’ll be damned. Thanks brother.

Default Make sure you use the longer screw!

Mine broke using the shorter screw the trim backed out enough that pressure on it broke the mount where the screw holds it

That's also the earlier version. The revised mount is now double the thickness there and a stronger material.

I installed Version 2 with the longer screw and Yaz hit it out of the park!
I use my phone for navigation on rides with the local PCA and previously used a bulky Ram X-grip
which I didn’t much care for. So I went all in and ordered Yaz’s setup and the Quad Lock gear and
could not be happier.
Version 2 mounts firmly in the dash and holds the phone in an unobtrusive location where
you don’t have to take your eyes of the road for very long.
Very reasonable price includes excellent customer service!
Highly Recommended.

Yaz replaced mine with the newer version AND longer screw. (I didnt even ask it just came!) Best customer service ever! ) Only problem is my new one is blue like Metropol blue! No complaint just noticed. Did you use a different material? And yes it definitely holds much better!!

Yeah. Different, stronger material. I think the hint of blue is the resin manufacture's base material before they add pigmentation. I only really notice the color when holding it up to bright light.

Based on the positive feedback so far, I'll be getting quotes for injection molding. Need to make some design for manufacturing revisions first. Any injection molded parts would be in black. Also going to get quotes to do the base in black anodized aluminum.

Finally got around to installing mine today and I’m super pleased. Couldn’t be easier to install and it seems very sturdy. If you own a 996 you need to buy one, period. Yaz is about as stand up a guy as they come too!

My mount held up quite well for my Dragy this morning.
It is VERY well designed!
