Why buy a new McLaren for 1 mil when you can buy a new GT3 RS or GT2 RS for a percentage of the cost of the McClaren, and get the same performance with more durability. A good buddy went thru this same excercise after the McClaren spend most of its ownership in the shop. The GT3 RS did not.
I probably see a 911 every other day, and a 996 at least once a week.and I don't live in a major metropolitan area. The 996 is not rare at all if you put it into a comparison with it's contemporaries (FD, MKIV TT, DB7/9, etc).

Recent thread here now begs an interesting comparison:
964 is to 993, as 996 is to 997
Ugky duckling panned by so-called “experts”, but loved by drivers. Is quickly replaced by larger, heavier, and nominally more powerful, but arguably less loved “retro” design.

Personal preference? If you have the money, who cares?

Never said the 996 Carerra is rare. Because it isn't. Second most number of units produced with the 997 winning top honors. But it is becoming a sought after sports car. But let's repeat so everyone understands. The 996 Carerra is not rare nor is it an exotic.

True, this means there are still hidden gem bargain 996’s out there. As long as there is hate, there is another 996 bargain to be had. Somewhere.
Only a few short years until 996 is just another halcyon in the pantheon of Classic 911 untouchables.
That will be a sad day indeed, because there’s no ugly duckling growing up behind it. Just a hundred million more $200K Chinese plastic “Autostart” supercars.
We are now witnessing the tail end (IE death) of Ferry Porsche’s 911 era.
Only a few short years until 996 is just another halcyon in the pantheon of Classic 911 untouchables.

At least one a week.
But I can’t tell you what model they are since they all look the same to me.
But we can agree that a McLaren is neither rare or exotic.

If you want to continue being butthurt, that's fine with me, but at least stop with the bad-faith arguments. There are less McLarens in the world than 1 year of peak 996 production (well, at least as of a couple years ago, who knows now).

You forget that 991 production numbers actually exceeded 997 by over 30%. And 992 is on track to FAR exceed 991!
Thus by todays global manufacturing standards, 996 production two decades ago was indeed “rare”, IE 996 totals were only a fraction of current 911 production. Circa 2020’s China allotments alone demonstrate this.

The 996 is now rare in relation to the 997, 991, 992 but not McClaren.

Rumor has it that they buy 2 McClarens after exercising stock options. That way they can switch off every week when it breaks down. Is that a true rumor?

Unfortunately there isn’t a sarcasm font that’s needed for most of my post.
I think your perspective is needed to stop this from becoming an echo-chamber.
IMO all 911s are semi-exotic 🤷♂️
