My 07/98 has amber lenses and very, very dark “Granite” grey colored accent plastic. Almost black, with tiny “speckles” of absolute black and “sparkles” of lighter more reflective colors.

Quite unique, and definitely color-through with regards the charcoal-dark, base material.

FWIW When Suncoast sent me the non-smoker’s retrofit cubby it did not match. That’s when I learned there were two “Granite’s”. 😱 Unfortunately replacement parts for the earlier, darker Granite are NLA.

So I’m stuck with my 1970’s ashtray 🥺.

Also, Erik at Bumperplugs will only accept cores for refund on the newer, lighter and smoother Granite material. He says the older material is too “rough” to use for refinishing.

So there’s pluses and minuses with both versions 🤑.

The "Exempt" for mileage is typical for any vehicle over ~5 years old.
It really has no meaning.
The mileage still gets reported every year when you get the vehicle inspection.

Texas won't have a problem with the CA rebuilt title, but your insurance might.
My insurance company, State Farm, will insure it (TX minimum insurance...but maybe not full coverage) as long as they were not the insurance company that totaled it.
I understand them not wanting to possibly total a vehicle multiple times.
If you have an x million dollar insurance umbrella then you might need to talk to your insurance agent as they normally require full coverage on vehicles.
At least SF did when I got my umbrella.

my dad was a captain in the army so I have 35 plus years with Usaa some way some how. I had all state, State Farm, geico, AAA, nobody can match USAA in customer service, another hint, you are a subscriber and they are for non profit you get a dividend Check at the end of the year.

Not sure if that was aimed at my post, if it was I am sorry it sounded that way. I was trying to be funny, it's just my nature to be playful, I will contain myself.

Do you have a link to an article or similar? Not saying that I don’t believe you but the last info I had read about it indicated that it was in early 2000. It would be helpful to the community to get it nailed down.

FWIW my build date is 07/98 and scratches in the “Granite” are virtually invisible.
07/98 would make it a MY1998 to my understanding. What letter is ahead of the S in the VIN? That letter on that spot in the VIN is the defining factor of MY.

Totally agree. You are truly in control of everything the car does. It provides nothing for comfort or driving aid and I love it. It was simply built to drive and it does that so well.

My build sheet is basically just the CD changer and 18 inch hollow spokes, which sadly did not come to me installed on the car.

X is 1999MY.
W would be 1998MY
Manufacturers tend to play games with build dates.
BMW built the E34 until 12/95 for the US. A 12/95 is still a 1995 model year.

Appreciate it. Only reason I wanted to be earlier is that after 25 years no emissions testing here in Texas. I’ll like to see what I’ll do with hollow cats.
