Sold for $22,750. This seemed to be a fairly normal car. Decent but not pristine and 90K miles. Rare and ultra low mileage cars are still fetching a premium but the market may be back to pre-COVID levels.
Sunroof, fake badging, something isn't right with this one; and bidders agreed
This is a very unique, highly optioned 996.1 aero, but in my book it's not a true GT3 without the Mezger engine. The engine is the M96.02, the same one in my car, but it has the X51 which would be more similar to the "Power Up" cars.
Interesting that the VIN comes back as a Carrera 4 which does line up correctly with the M96.02, but only has "Carrera" sill plates and the whole faux GT3 badging. Weird. Wonder if they converted it to RWD car?

I don't buy the story; factory would never use a sunroof car to market the GT3 its patently absurd. More likely a PO just glued the poser-fake badge. Kill the BS story, re-install factory badging, and voila: $75K car on BaT

Never say never. Technically, the GT3 did use the stiffer chassis of the Carrera 4. Also, the X51 package was developed along side of the Metzger unit as a backup in case they were not able to get it homologated in time for racing. Having said that it's still not the unit that was actually used in the GT3 so the badge is poor taste.

It still has 6 days left on the auction, usually bidders wait until the end. It would be interesting if the seller has any documentation to support the story though

Documentation can be faked but the photos in the auction post would seem to back it up. Including Porsche AG service stamps and German language option list with handwritten GT3 amendments.
It's an exceptional build. Obviously anyone seriously interested in bidding should seek whatever additional verification the seller might have.
I don't know...something tells me this car is legit. It is certainly weird but if it was just being used as a static display, the C4 chassis is moot. Same with the GT3 badging. The sunroof is the biggest question but being honest, nothing Porsche does shocks me. A factory build to that level was more than just some dealer or buyer checking all the boxes.
