Changed a tire in the pouring rain last night. I was planning on getting new rear tires in the Spring, but a pot hole sealed the deal. I don't think this is going to buff out.
I didn't take any pictures, it isn't life changing by any means. My car lived it's early life in Florida, and the top of the steering wheel appears to have been baked by the sun, though the dash looks perfect and the rest of the interior doesn't seem to have suffered the same UV damage. I pulled the wheel, sanded the cracking down with a scotchbrite pad to smooth it out. Then I took the Kiwi black shoe polish to it. It looks worlds better, but it still needs to be refinished properly.
Changed cabin and engine air filters. Swapped out the limpy hood struts for a fresh set so I don’t get drilled in the back again while reaching into the bottom of the trunk. Got rid of the amber side marker lights for a set of clear.
Waiting for my Fister exhaust to arrive before dropping it off for that to get intstalled, the IMS, RMS, water pump, belts and fresh bake fluid.
You will love the Fisters. I had mine done about 8 years ago and I still get a kick out of them. If you're having a shop do the IMS and other stuff, have them replace the AOS at the same time, unless you know that it's been changed recently.
Hey Ratchet - I have always been a big Porsche fan. When I first witnessed the (then new) Porsche Carerra 6 (906) at Road America as a kid, I fell in love with that sound and that look. My father had a 356 Speedster when I was a very small child and he then had a 911E when I was in my teens. There were lots of pictures of his other Porsches among his trophy collection. We were always cheering for the marque and their motorsport heritage grew, as I did.
I have always wanted a 911. The closest I could get, with my limited budget was the 944. We now have 5-6 of them. Bought them all for cheap and fixed them up to become reliable daily-driver and also for use as rallycross and track-day cars. In 2013 a friend allowed me to rallycross his 911. I fell in love with the car and renewed my vow to have one, one day. Maybe you've seen this car. It's in a lot of magazines and gets around many of the car shows in our area. The shot below was actually taken at our farm at the Detroit SCCA Season Ender RallyCross of 2013. I drove like a ****** that day and ended up about 5th or 6th. The owner (Paul) took the class win. It wasn't a bad season, though, as I won 10 of 11 and the 2WD championship.
Over the past few years I've been socking-away money. When it reached a certain level, I decided to start looking for my 911. I bought Peter Zimmerman's book. Did some research and started looking at prices. That's when I discovered the car I now own. Knowing that the IMS bearing has been replaced eased most of my apprehension with regard to this 996. There were other items in the listing that helped me in my decision to have a look. The price was significantly lower than any comparable 911s I came across. It's got a fair amount of mileage (123k), but it is in good shape and has been well maintained. Having driven it home from Linwood (MI) in a snow storm, I now have a list of things to address before claiming it to be my daily. But that's what I do: 1) buy cheap, 2) fix, 3) drive.
As mentioned, great story and picture, thank you for sharing. Look forward to possibly seeing you at the track (Waterford, Grattan, Mid-Ohio, etc.). Please keep the forum posted (as you are I see) on the maintenance and performance modifications!

Make sure the rim didn't get bent, that's quite a hit!
Had two new rear tires put on today. Of course as soon as I got home I removed and reinstalled them to make sure they were properly seated, torqued, and inflated. Just for the record, they were grossly over-torqued and under inflated.
Potholes are really bad here in Albany! Got 3 rims and tires damaged last year on my Subaru!! Only reason I'm not driving the Porsche as much in the winter now.. pothole nightmare everywhere!

Somewhat clean, at least salt-free for a while.
Drove home from the airport, stopped at the car wash to get rid of the salt. At least it looks somewhat presentable right now. Hopefully next weekend can work on the hardtop squeaking and chase down a shift **** and handbrake handle.

Nice! Are the cutouts the style from the GT3RS? Did you do the center radiator flip and ducting to make it functional? I have the parts to do this but am gunshy about cutting up my bumper. Any tips you can share would be appreciated. Maybe start a new thread/post in the details of this modification?
