What did you do to your 996 today?

When I had the IMS Solution done I had them replace the transmission mount with oem…that was about 4K miles ago. The transmount was shredded. When I asked if the engine mounts were good still I was told “50/50…mostly because the trans mount was shredded, but the car doesn’t have many miles so it could go either way, but it doesn’t have any of the typical symptoms…”
So I made it a non-priority…shoulda made it a priority based on how much of an improvement was t made. My friend that works at a dealer in ATL said he recommends to his customers replacing mounts every 20k miles since it’s a “relatively cheap fix with only an hour of labor…a good bit of the time the mounts needed to be replaced and nice we see the condition they’re in even if there were no symptoms.
I’m still scratching my head though that my sump sits lower with new mounts than it did with worn ones…but the tail pipes sit higher…

Unrelated to the cowl, do you guys use tire dressing? I don't like the plastic Tonka truck look so I clean my tires every time I wash and apply Scrubbing Bubbles to the tire once dry... it gives them the matte black sheen you'd get when the tires are new. I did find this that I'm going try this from Aero Cosmetics, the pilots on this forum might recognize it:

It does a good job and lasts for a while.
It's easy to re-do and there's no danger of a permanent failure.
But I've been thinking about replacing my cowl with a carbon fiber one.
(Hoping Rennline will make one and it will be more affordable than ordering one from Germany)

For tires, I only clean with soap and water.
1) Way back when(1980s? 1990s?) I used a tire dressing that flung off when I drove the car and messed up a very detailed cleaning.
Since then I've avoided using any dressing to avoid any mess.
This is probably not an issue 30-40 years later.
2) I don't like the shiny look.
3) I've always wondered what dressing soaking in does to the rubber.

Have you looked at the existing shifter?
I'm sure you know this already, but the cables are not a maintenance item. Do the shifter, or the shifter internals, upgrade the ends with new, and be sure to use an alignment tool. There's a few good YT vids that cover the upgrade. Mark the thread where your cables seat to make the alignment easy. That high end shifter looks pretty awesome. I wanted to stay stock shifter throw so the internals were a good compromise. I'm satisfied. For now. . Priorities, priorities...

THE phone mount from Yaz installed today. 17mm ball. ESR Magsafe mount. Holds the phone very well. Location is awesome, right in the instrument sight line.
Also changed out the ballast resistors for the low speed fans(last weekend). Temps in traffic have been significantly reduced. No high speed fans this week. Here's old and new resistors. (same as a million previous pics)
I bought the parts for the cheap alternative, but when it came to putting it together, I decided it was a bit too kludgey for me. Before resistor change, the temp would get up to needle on the right side of the 0 in 180, and then the high speed fans would kick in. The highest temps it sees now are the needle on the left side of the 0 in 180. This car has the CSF radiators and a 160 thermostat. If I'm above 20mph, the needle is right on the 180 line. Since putting these in, I've had no high speed fans. It's a cool car!

'I bought both the shifter and cables as a kit when Numeric had it on sale back around Christmas. I only installed the shifter and was going to attempt the cables but was a bit overwhelmed with trying to get the OEM cables out. Worked on that rubber grommet for at least a half hour before calling it quits. I plan on hanging onto the Numeric cables and will look into having a reputable shop install them. Took her out for a little test run this afternoon and man does that shifter work nicely! Shifts are much more crisp and firm and I really like it!

I originally had Shift Right kit + Numeric cables. The Numeric cables add precision; they bolt solidly to the shift assembly and cable brackets at the transmission end, there is a solid, firm cable connection at each end, and the cables themselves are heftier than stock. But they also added too much gear noise for my tastes. I went with new stock cables and ends instead.

The cable plug/bung is the worst part of the job. I fought with getting it back in for almost two hrs before giving up and going home for the night. Thinking things through, I decided to bring some car wash soap with me the following day (Meguires thick yellow stuff…I had tried all kinds of lubricants before that… none of them worked). Make sure you enlarge the holes for the cables, as they’re much larger than stock. Put plenty of soap on the plug and push it back in from under the car. Good luck
