Way before SOUL was even a thing, I did competition headers and X-Pipe on my 996 with a Tune. I felt like it lost torque pretty noticeably under 4000rpm. I switched to catless cross over pipes and found that it picked up that loving feeling over the X-Pipe in the lower RPMs. Did you notice a torque dip from the X?

Yeah, that rubber grommet still gives me nightmares. Otherwise, the rest of the job is really easy! Nothing is hard about it.

that ocean Jade, me likey. I'm going to save money up to get my car painted that color. I don't care if it lowers the value of resale. I'm not selling it.

It's not just you. I had ordered crossover 200 cell cats with my headers and valved exhaust, but they were having production delays. I let the maker talk me into xpipe for the same price. I can definitely feel theres some torque missing down low. I'm told that softronic makes a tune that will smooth out the curve. But that's a 900$ experiment. Will do it, but for now I'm ok with the power as is, the sound is amazing, and over 4k it does make me happy.
I'm not sure any tune without a Dyno could guarantee results. Though, it's not like my car is unique, and softronic have been there done that

Also changed out the ballast resistors for the low speed fans(last weekend). Temps in traffic have been significantly reduced. No high speed fans this week. Here's old and new resistors. (same as a million previous pics)

I bought the parts for the cheap alternative, but when it came to putting it together, I decided it was a bit too kludgey for me. Before resistor change, the temp would get up to needle on the right side of the 0 in 180, and then the high speed fans would kick in. The highest temps it sees now are the needle on the left side of the 0 in 180. This car has the CSF radiators and a 160 thermostat. If I'm above 20mph, the needle is right on the 180 line. Since putting these in, I've had no high speed fans. It's a cool car!
Where can I learn more about cooling and the low speed fans? Thanks!

Here is a thread that rumbles through the issue and options. There are a number of other threads that cover similar ground.

To add more commentary to my problem, I did not have an overheating problem. It's just the lower speed wasn't working, and the high speed fan noise, after 3+ years, was starting to bug me.
Good luck!

It's amazing how close Miami Blue looks like RUF Blue... I'm partial to Miami for obvious reasons.

Default Attack of the heater foam…Plugs update

Post Blend door fix scarring…JB Weld in black vs Nashua silver. Sanding weld messy…dusty. At least see black if changing radio…see part numbers
I exposed the dash cutout after removing the head unit , cup holders , vents and brackets holding climate control. Note…the 996 is several pieces and I found it better to take out ad such. There are several tutorials which suggest the use of HVAC tape to replace failing foam. There has also been introduced a “plug set” to cover each hole in the flap. The plugs are appropriately sized and it is recommended to add sealant to them. They’re pretty well supported. They added technique to the jerry rig. I was excited to include in my repair. The use of them made it messy but I may hav3 used excess gasket seal. It made attaching th3 tape difficult but it was done.
A couple precautions…know how to move the blend doors or risk losing plugs into system. I’ll be lookin* for one for a while.I had to dismantle some duct work to look for it. Lot of time in an elective procedure. I would have them connected ,Ike tear off gaskets or washers with sticky back tape already in place(remember my cut plug man).
yea it was kinda my bad but they were there to be dropped. If I had chosen to not used would have been half the time and less car to put back together. But,..it’s fixed

Prep

Nausha tape with outline of “plugs” underneath
put this on the Done list and move on to next project…hopefully no ghost 👻rattle will show 😩

It's not the end of the world I'm pretty sure you can get consistent results. The Cerakote streaking is caused by moisture and sometimes heat, only complaint is their pre-moistened pads are a little small so use a pad per surface. Example being the cowl would use an individual pad, the battery cover it's own pad and etc. It's an absolute pain to get off and if I did it again, I'd remove the windshield wiper and cowl to apply the product... it will come out perfect that way.

Unrelated to the cowl, do you guys use tire dressing? I don't like the plastic Tonka truck look so I clean my tires every time I wash and apply Scrubbing Bubbles to the tire once dry... it gives them the matte black sheen you'd get when the tires are new. I did find this that I'm going try this from Aero Cosmetics, the pilots on this forum might recognize it:

I have used this product from Detail king for years. One application brings the trim back to new appearance and the finish lasts for years.

I'll definitely look at that if I need to redo mine. Thanks for the info.

My panel was actually a DIY job using black acrylic. It is reversible. You'd just need to tap the crash bar if you wanted to reinstall them.

No paint at all actually. Home Depot special:

I just wanted to see if liked the look (yes, yes I do). Plan is to do the aero kit install, sunroof delete, and repaint all at the same time either this winter or next. Filling in the bumperette holes is now on that list as well.

Ok sweet and I'll check it out. I saw the one from Cypher and was thinking about it too.
