Took a 80 mile drive and changed the oil today. The old girl is happy. Took a sample and got it in the mail. I impressed myself...no Exxon Valdez drama at all this time, for a change.
I knew something was wrong with the pedal..
The almost new clutch (5000kms) was not slipping as I did few tests.
Not that difficult to depress but the return feeling was sometimes weird at the top.
The spring is broken in 3 pieces... the 3 parts were all wedge inside each other when I removed it.
Just removing the helper spring assembly makes the clutch feel really good even if it still a little bit stiffer then a Honda. Control is easy.
I just hope the pedal was always returning correctly and didnt damage the clutch...
Tried to go for a drive today, but ran into some road blocks. Too many fires ahead I guess. Eyes burned from the smoke when I got out of the car. Our town registered greater than 315 ppm PM2.5 today. Woohoo!
Then the apparent camber of that rear tire bugged me. But it seems to be from the uneven surfaces of the road.
Seems to be OK. Last alignment was -1.8
Previously I posted the 2003 Cobalt C2 aerokit I purchased pre-covid off BAT and drove it home from Dallas TX. Shortly after getting it home with no issues - for general maintenance, did clutch/flywheel, IMS Solution, UAOS, RS engine mounts and Powerflex transmission mount.
The work I just completed was due to needing to clean the radiators for the first time since purchase, and due to the passenger side fan resistor failing. The resistor from Amazon (two pack to have a spare) installed and mounted in the factory clip. I also purchased a good used third radiator assembly (radiator, mounting frame and rubber duct) off EBay for $160 ($268 TOTAL with purchase of new hoses, clamps, bolts, coolant) and installed it. Also while bumper cover was off, installed Rennline grill screens and finished with Girodisc rotors and Akebono Euro brake pads.

Did you need to remove the rear wheels or were you able to just adjust the cables?
Yes, the rear wheels need to come off. I adjusted mine a year or so ago. The cable didn't need adjusting. All i needed to do was to adjust the shoe to drum spacing. It's a standard drum brake adjustment. Rotate the adjuster until you can't turn the rotor, then back off some clicks until there is no resistance from the shoes on the drum. Once I did this, the hand brake takes 5 clicks.

Nice underbody, the car looks well taken care off. You're missing an underbody panel that redirects air to the transmission. Maybe you already know. Maybe it's not that effective, many 996s don't have it. It seams to be lost on the majority. part# 99650452902

Pelican shows that part as a 3.6l gt2 part but i guess it might work on others. I have always thought the tray ended abruptly on my y2k but non of the pet drawings from porsche include that part for me.

All 996 Porsches came with it. For some reason during the service history people take them off and never put them back on but its part of the aerodynamic package in our cars. There are a few for 30 dollars on ebay.
Getting ready for my first road trip with it this weekend. Replaced my crazed/cracked tail light with a used oem replacement. I also re-located the climate controls/installed cup-holder retrofit, washed the car, checked the fluids, and let leatherique soak into the seats for two days to clean and condition the leather; The stuff works wonders.

Thanks Moe. You learn something everyday. I guess, now that you mention it, there does seem to be tabs and/or slots along that trailing edge of the last panel. I have never studied it very much. I am usually distracted by looking at all the suspension doodads under there. I will check into what it looks like and maybe pick one up if affordable.
