Yes, he's really pleased with the results so far and with the progress we're making.

[rant] One of the mysteries of running a bodyshop is that for some reason customers don't understand or want to pay for the cost of paint & materials. Hence (at the risk of seemingly ranting for the sake of it) just in case anyone has ever wondered why they get billed for "consumeables" you may want to study these photos and consider how many rolls of masking tape, polymask (plastic sheeting) and paper we use whilst masking parts of the car during the course of painting the shell. Add in the cost of masking materials to the sealer, etch, primer, paint, lacquer & thinners, then add all the sanding paper & pads, stopper, filler, tack rags, panel wipe, etc and you soon rack up a reasonable amount of spend. In a small volume shop like 9m we don't have the time to log & charge for every individual item so we have simplified the charge by analysing the yearly spend on everything and factoring it against the hours worked on all projects; the factor we work on is typically 10-15% for "paint & materials" against the total cost of labour (depending on the job).
Thus, the next time you have a fender repainted, please don't think that your bodyshop guy is ripping you off because he apparently charged you $100 for "just a litre of paint". [/rant]

.... moving swiftly on, Neil and Lee set to work this morning back masking (reverse sticking) the masking tape around the apertures, then over masking paper onto the exposed sticky side of the tape to finish the job. The car was then rolled into the booth and sealed down to the floor to minimise the potential dust disturbance when painting the outisde panels. Not long now.

Shop charges are totally justifiable. I think most shops I've ever used charged around $7 for a shop charge, no matter how small the job. Could have been nothing more than a squirt of brake cleaner or paper towel. I probably used $7 worth of that stuff just changing my engine and gear oils yesterday.

Not much you miss G, or should that be Eagle Eye?

It's yup & double yup: Arpad's project and I'm pleased to say Neil is back in town for good.

Spot the difference:

First photo is the blue basecoat.

Second photo is with the clearcoat lacquer.

Maritime Blue is a crazy colour to photograph, it looks different in every shot.

Shell's out of the booth with the paint hardening off, so attention now turns to the doors, bumpers and other panels which we want to get painted before weekend so that the paint ages at the same rate as the shell.

Amazing, just beautiful guys.

I love the speedsters, but this is what a 993 is all about.
I can not wait to see it in the club sport trim.

Yup, it's a standard & popular color on the Speedster and 964RS.
