9m93RS Narrowbody Clubsport - it's finished!!!

Because we're in between major fabrication jobs we decided to bring forward the build of another 9m93RS Clubsport which was scheduled to start early next year. We have a customer who owns a 993RS that was re-shelled into a non-RS LHD shell which has also seen major accident damage, so the plan is to build him a brand new, fully painted Clubsport RHD shell & then bring the car in to transfer all the parts over once it's ready. Well, that's the current plan....

With our new full time fabricator Owen in the team work can progress quickly, we've already stripped the donor shell & removed the roof on the dolly, the next stage seen here to load the shell onto the Celette jig for alignment check & roll cage installation. It's critical that the cage is welded in on the jig to minimise the risk of distortion from all the welding. A lot of preparation has already been done on the interior removing brackets & cleaning up areas for the cage mounting plates.

Oh man! My wife just asked me yesterday what I wanted for Christmas and I said "A new 9m build thread" - Not really, but merry Christmas to me! And keep the pictures coming.

Let it be known to all members of Rennslist that he by the name of AOW162435, will upon the winning of a lottery, immediately dispatch his weathered 993 to Ninemeister for a top-to-bottom refresh.

That's a fact.

Throw the KIM into the equation, and we can work something out.

Looking forward to this! I just watched my first-ever episode of Chasing Classic Cars on TV the other day. The guys at F40 Motorsports in New England(?) just picked up a '71 Dino from a tent in a guy's backyard in Jersey and they're just starting to tear it all down.

To an office dweller on the outside with limited skills and an overcrowded 2 car garage, life with your own shop sure looks like frikkin' a Fantasy Island playground, but I expect that the reality is quite different...

I so need more space too. If I had the coin, there are several small warehouses for sale in the area. I toyed with the idea of using part of one for like a Store-it-all and using the other side as my own little fantasy island. Oh yea, SUBSCRIBED!

Oh boy. What have I started now....???

Skeleton staff in today as three from 10 have gone down with the lurgy, so only managed to grab one shot of Owen preparing the rear window apertures on my way past the fab shop (apologies for the darkness, but it's like that Oop North!) :

CalvinC4S 12-06-2010 02:28 PM

Colin, you are the man!

Can you please follow the roof replacement process with photos and discription. I know of at least a few of us that dream of doing a quality/OEM sunroof delete some day.

By preparing the window apertures, is he grinding the roof seam on the gutter for a complete new top panel?

NineMeister 12-06-2010 02:46 PM

Fitting a new roof is THE job that sorts out the men from the boys; so on the grounds that me and Marc have had to make special tools & work out our own special technique for doing the job properly, it's unfortunately the one job that I'm not prepared to fully disclose.

Sorry about that Calvin, but I'm guessing that you probably knew this already?

CalvinC4S 12-06-2010 02:48 PM

American body shop would close the sunroof and use wood filler :(
