there are lots of spring choices w/ JIC, you get only the very soft ones Bilstein supplies.
as to what spring rate to use it depends, I used 7/10(392/560#) for a few years because of the very rough condition of the main local track, last couple of years 8/12(448/672#) this is very nice but could be even stiffer. A Cup would use 600/800#.
I choose my springs to reduce understeer, the ratio f/r of spring rates gives you an indication of the understeer from the springs.
stock RS is .54((246/457#) the factory is ultra conservative
7/10 is .7
8/12 is .67 less understeer than 7/10
600/800 is .75 more understeer
there is still a lot of power on understeer, it's hard to get these pigs to turn when you are on the gas. Next step to alleviate this is wider fronts wheels, stiffer springs would help too. The guys w 600/800 don't seem to have much complaints here
if I was going to change springs again i'd probably use 9/14(504/784#) @ .64
You have to remember that mine is primarily a track car but it works very well in street use. All RS rubber bushes help at lot to that end, solid sides, and monoball toe links w/ locks are track oriented but not so much for street use, though they don't cause issues either
I don't like the JIC front monoball/camberplate and changed mine to ERP which is a copy of the Cup versions.
Other people that track these cars use Motons w/ 600/800 also for dual use and also very happy. When I run out of other things that need to be done i'll probably change to Motons too.
I much prefer the way Moton adjusts ride height over JIC. w/ JIC it's a pain to adjust ride height but then that is something that is usually only rarely done.

Hi Bill,
Really value your input and thought on this.
Im starting to think the 7/10 spring might be better than the 6/9. Now I have LSD in I think understeer will become more of a problem. Ill probably have to soften front RS adjustable bar on hole. I wonder if 6/10 would be a good street mix wiith LSD being less understeer than 7/10...
I read your past thread regards teh vamber plates and will use the strongeer 12.9 bolt with some washrs underneath. Im sure this will hold in place for street use. Im aware of check the chock top nut is tight.
Its good to have more hands on experience from JIC owners. Im a long way from the US so the decision is more critical...

My brother had JICs on his previous 996 GT2 and was all praises for them in terms of price pts. He just put motons on his 7 GT3 RS and told me that the JICs are good.
I have my set but will install them once my engine is done. I searched on 996 and 997 forums and they all had good reviews.
To each his own I guess. Some guys like the more comfy feel that other sets give them. I prefer a more track oriented car than a daily driver type.

Camlob. Thanks for the feedback. Looking forward to your experiences on the street once these are installed. What springs you using? Our roads are bitumen and not so super smooth. Many peaks and troughs when driving quickly...
Noah. Yip. 95% street. Mad I know! Its going to be a very capable street car :-). Actually I hope to do a few DE a year in it. Its not a daily driver. More a weekend car give a good hard spanking too...

Gidday Steven.
Believe it or not I still havent seen the car or driven it in person since the work was done! The mechanic drove it again last week and is certain we will see some gains. I very much hope so....
I will get to find out myself next weekend and a Dyno scheduled in the morning of the 16th May. I will scan the results and post. These of course will be preliminary. Steve Wong is on call to build a new chip based on the AFRs we get and then well do a final dyno probably with the cone on and the standard airbox as a comparison. Im still optimistically hoping around 280 bhp RWHP and 250 lbft RWTQ. I know thats optimistric given the work performed so Im prepared to be a little off that....
I have some small updates taking place in May which I will also post....

Believe me I thought of everything! If you go to page 1 of the thread you will see my inidial attempt 15 months ago.
In the end any aftermarket solution will illuminate differently than the 100% genuine VDO cards. Ive tried a number of them.
The factory was the way to go. The car isnt a race car although it sees occassional track use, but with the three spoke wheel Ive never really had a visibility issue with the tacho which I can see with a glance after 11 years practice. Im happy with the standard factory tacho.
