Tim and Co thanks so much. Im very happy with the manifolds/alternator fan and the way the whole engine has come together.

Delanobe. You are welcome. Finally I get to give something back! :-)

tjangi. Your appreciation noted - especially from one with such a beautifully modded car yourself!

Cheers all and happy New Year!

Marcus - thank you for making my CF dreams come true! For thoe that havent read the thread in full marcus has reliably supplied all the CF for my 993 over the last 7 years - all OEM quality and finish and all at reasonable prices!

I would like to buy the engine fuse box cover and window vent in CF but I need to save up for those parts :-)

Cheers

Marcus - You are trying to tempt me! Let me know if you have any pictures of the window vent in CF on a 993 or 964?

Cheers

Macca-- Congratulations on conceiving an incredible & beautifully-focused 993!

Great to see you & RLer 993MAN had a blast on your recent Rennlist rally.

Just a small update before this thread no doubt hibernates for a while.

Official weigh in of the vehicle showed 1330kg. This was with all fluids, half tank of gas and fire extinguisher, tool kit, jack etc on board. Ideally I was hoping it would have been a little lighter. I am not sure what more Im prepared to do here to erradicate another 30kg as I like my rear wiper, sunroof, standard door cards and air con. Perhaps emptying the cavernous factory windshield washer tank may help! If someone offered me a reasonably priced RS alloy hood or some factory alloy doors I think that might just about do it.....

We re ran the dyno. Unfortunately the temperatures were +6.5 celcius and +25% humidity higher than in September. It was high summer this time compared to early spring last time.

Essentially we saw no change on previous figures (manybe 1%-1.5% down in actual fact). However this was with the dual cone filter installed. Again a bit dissapointing but looking at the new AFRs they are near on perfect so the fueling is just right and Steves adjusted chip delivered on addressing the areas I asked for the traces to be adjusted. Perfect.

So wiithout opening the engine or checking/rekeying the cams on an 11% loss factor (using hub Dynapack Dyno 4000) we finished at:

292.63 RWHP @ 6250 rpm
259.60 RWTQ lbft @ 5500 rpm

Weight = 1330kg = 2926 lbs

Ill post the AFRs and traces on a later post. Ive attached a few final profile shots as stock reference pics for those who are interested.....

Cheers

One of the nicest 993's around Macca. Very very sweet ride.
Stock weight would be around 1390 for the manual.

What weight reduction have you done to date and does it add up to around 60kg's ?

Regards

Ken

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the kind words. You arent far off on weight estimates either!

Published weight is 1370kg for the manual in 1994. This is bare bones no options wet weight. They got heavier with options and model year (Vario ram) although the plublished weight for the C2 remained at 1370kg. Ive seen factory "stock" 1996 C2s weigh up at well over 1392kg and infact Ive never seen a factory 993 weigh in below 1385kg in road trim with factory options (they all got aircon here). The Tipos were heavier again.

With sunroof, overmats and 17 inch alloys, my stock 1994 MY C2 weighed in 1387kg lightly optioned from factory when i bought it 10 years back.

In the full option spec I have with the car we believe having some idea of whats gone back in (auto dimming rear vision mirror with rain sensor, Valentine One hardwire, HID headlights and fog lights, Techart brake ducts/fog lights and plumbing, 18" 3 piece wheels, RS adjustable sway bars, full interior carbon fibre and billet alloy accents, Bilstein shocks with RS drop links, billet rear shims, front strut brace, turbo bumper, Gerts FPB etc etc) that the stock factory weight of this car with all up with the additional changes/options included would be around 1425kg).

I think weve lost relatively around 95kg - and it does start to make a difference to the handling. Many of the areas of weight loss are detailed on this thread but the key ones to reduce weight would be the seats (circa 30kg), Dach X pipes (maybe 12kg), and RS LWFC aybe 6-8kg. The undercarriage CF replacement panels helped loos a few extra kgs but stripping out the airbox, clutch breather gear and the heaer blowe in the engine bay was a healthy 10kg or so. Lastly Rennline alloy battery brace with Odyssey Gel cell was probably good for 5-7kg while I had 18" wheels built to spec that weighed about the same (just fractionally higher the set) as the factory 17" Cups. There was probably around 5-6kg relative savings for the set. The balance of 35kg was found through a few dozen smaller changes many of then detailed in earlier posts.

I hope that helps give some clue. My mantra has always been that I dont want to massively compromise touring comfort (as we tour in the car 2000k a year aprox.) nor do i wish to make any non reversable panel changes or have any aftermarket or non OEM exterior panels on the car. Basically I wish to keep the car so that I can return the external and internal cosmetic apearance to more or less stock within a few days of work. Thus finding the last 30kg int easy as the obvious places to look are the door cards, CF hood or trunk and doors and aircon and sunroof - none of which I wish to compromise (heck Ive still kept the orignal cup wheels, the sport design wheels, the original seats and the factory grey sports seats I bought 6 years back!).

Cheers
M
