I was able to keep the black plate. I am looking for a clean 1964 Florida tag to register to it. I have a current Florida antique tag for now. State of Florida will allow you to register a tag from the same year the vehicle was manufactured. I did it on an old Chevy I used to have. It looked pretty cool... but not as cool as black California one looks!!!

Very cool idea. Make sure you check out www.thesamba.com. Its the VW version of RL. Lots of cool cars and parts over there. Watch out for rust!!!
