Sweet looking VW. My Dad had a mid 60's bug back in the late 70's and early 80's when I was living at home. As I remember the floorboards were notorious for rusting out, and his was no exception. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I saw this cool video here on Rennlist at some point. In case you ever need to change the alternator belt in a hurry.

I loved every minute I spent reading this whole thread just now. I know nothing about the year you bought (used to have a 72 Beetle ages ago in College, best handling car I've owned) but it looks amazing. Not sure about the roof rack. I kind of winced when you first posted it. Getting used to it now. Is it to carry lots of stuff up there? It's one of the most unusual ones I've ever seen.

What made you buy this particular car? Were you looking for something just like this for a very long time?

Congrats,
Steve R

Great shot!

My favorite part of the car is the tail-pipe connector. Never seen one of those before.

JD, if you ever have a chance to post up a small vid I'd love to see (and hear!) it.

I decided that I wanted the car to look like it truly rolled out of 1964. All of the accessories that I've installed are period correct. The roof rack will grow on you!!!

I've always been interested in everything air cooled, and the VW Type 1 was exactly as it was named. It was the first successful "modern" air cooled car. I had a specific car in mind when I began the search. Had to be no later that 1966 (later ones had "ugly" headlights), had to be from SoCal, no rust ever, stock and not Frankenbeetled... etc...

I have a few items that will be fixed as soon as time allows, but I hope to have the majority of it finished in a week or two...

Sweet Bug! Congrats! I have been a life-long VW fanatic, its kinda my religion. I am very active in the VW community on the East Coast. One of my friends owns his own VW restoration shop in Rhode Island and does some amazing California-quality restorations, and his wife has a '63 or '64 in the same color.
