I received the paperwork from the seller today and found some very interesting things out about "my" car.
  1. The original owner took delivery of the car in Hamburg Germany on the 9th of December 1963.
  2. The car was first serviced (300 mile service) on the 15th of February 1964 in Compton, California.
  3. The original owner wrote the license plate number on the Service Booklet and the same plate is still on the car today.
  4. I looked up the original owners name online and came up with a gentleman that was in the Marines and stationed abroad in the early to mid 60's. Maybe this is why the car was a European delivery of a U.S. Spec car?
  5. A radio was installed in the car on the 22nd of May 1964 at Whittier Radio and Television for $62.09.
  6. Old cars and their stories are very cool...

Very cool. Great car - keep us updated on it, even if it is a bit off topic.

There are some very cool rides on the Samba. Is a good rebuilt bug reliable enough for a DD? Hmmm...

Now that's a garage!

If my 968 ever dies, I may look into this a little harder. I keep thinking I will replace it with an SC or 3.2, but this would be soo much cheaper.

Buy a 912... the best of all worlds. Porsche with the reliability of the old 356 motor.

JD,

you buy all the coolest cars!

my first car was a gold '74 super beetle with a crank sunroof. my grandpa bought it for me for $50. we brought it home and wondered what the bailing wire wrapped around the seat rails was for......we clipped the wires and the drivers seat fell through the floor.

good memories of that car.
