Thanks Darin. You guys are tooooo kind. The engine still needs a good power wash, but it is going to have to wait for another day.

Default We are back in!

Breaking for lunch. Man I'm wasted.

It took about 4 good hours to get the engine and transmission back in their place and off the cheesy lift I bought from Harbor Freight. That thing scared the crap out of me.

Here is what I got done this am.
  • Engine and tranny bolted in, but none of the bolts are torqued yet
  • Bolted in the RS MMs
  • starter motor reconnected. I kind of forgot where the wires went and my labeling was so so. JP your write up saved me again. TY!
  • drive shafts connected but not torqued
  • clutch slave hydraulic line reconnected
  • engine skirt in place. this is a little tricky, but actually goes in pretty easily.
  • reconnected the throttle cable. Man there is one grommet that is a MAJOR PITA.

One question... Did you finish your garage floor? If so, what products? It looks great!

Keep up the good work! You are truly an inspiration!

Thank you Michael. I get lots of compliments on my floor. I had my floor done by a pro who is local. The floor was installed as part of a major remodel about 6 years ago. The floor required major concrete and grinding so I left it up to the professionals.

As a coincidence, I ended up buying my 993 from this guy a couple of years after he did my floor. Small world.

Good advice actually. I have been known to make mistakes when when I get tired.

Default I'm getting there...

This afternoon I got the following done:
  • torqued tranny bolts
  • torqued MM bolts
  • torqued drive shaft bolts
  • connected a zillion wires and hoses in the engine compartment. All that neurotic labeling appears to have paid off. I still have my fingers crossed tho
  • installed air box
  • installed blower/fan
  • mostly installed the ac compressor. I ended up dropping one of those nuts into a very nasty location...ugh Time to stop working. Tomorrow I will buy a good magnet retrieval tool. If I can't get it out. Its gonna stay there and I'll buy a new nut.

It is amazing how quickly the engine compartment fills up. The more crap I install, the less room to work.

Great job. You're not alone, I dropped that A/C compressor nut too when I did my vram DIY. Needless to say I've got a another one on there now.

How "funny" it is that you forgot where the wires went! I was stuck exactly there too... At that time, Jason Andreas saved me.

so you're close to the end now. Is your champagne bottle in the fridge?

Beautiful. Just don't forget to add oil before you fire it up.

Default Ok now I'm really getting close...

Todays progress:
  • Changed transmission fluid
  • fished out the ac bolt. I had to buy a magnet tool. I'm pretty amazed I didn't already have one of these things. Highly recommended.
  • Installed ac compressor + tensioned belt. 1/2" deflection per Andreas.
  • reconnected shift rod to transmission
  • installed tunnel cover
  • installed 2 muffs
  • bottom of the engine cleanup
