Auction price is Auction price. No need for “excuses.” There were other Porsches that went for over $1M so money was there.

i think the problem with auctioning off these types of collections, where there are multiple, special yet similar cars, is the psychology of it.

the thing that makes a WB 993 more special is it's rarity. when there are 4 of them sitting there they suddenly don't seem so rare, and that impacts bidding.

to get top dollar you sell one at a time and each time you say: "we may consider letting another one of the collection go but we just haven't decided yet"

there is a first time for everything and I actually agree with gbos1 here. WB 993s aren’t collector grade rare but there just isn’t enough to keep up with the unrelenting demand so we are getting down to the slim pickings.

As far as comparing Rudy’s cars performance to the first turbo S Porsche made that is just hilarious. Posting $1m+ Porsche auction results isn’t remotely comparable. Not even in the same stratosphere. More hyperbole.

anybody with enough time on their hands can scroll back on this thread and see myself predicting exactly this as a result of going to Amelia vs BAT etc. and will see gbos predicting sky high prices. The buyer for these cars for the most part, was not present at Amelia.

Wanted to dig into this more. These cars are prone to rock chips so it's surprising that even the higher mileage examples don't have any? I've seen low mileage cars indiscriminately have chips, seems unavoidable.

Could they have been touched up really well?

I agree 100%! Each of Rudy’s cars should have been auctioned on BAT one at a time. Easily 20%+ than what they brought at Amelia Island.

Not really rare but certainly desirable. I've gone through this in my head many times. Stumble across a newer 911, even a GT3 variant and think hmm, would I trade for that?

Doesn't take much time to come to the answer of not only no but hell no. (for me)

Interesting color combo but I've seen much worse. At least it's ready to off-road with suspension like that and stink bug up in the rear.

That GT emblem on the decklid is the most poser thing ever considering the car isn't even a Turbo. Glad they have the original to swap on, or even just remove that GT emblem. God knows why they added the 2 as well.

Default 1998 Carrera S Coupe September 1997 Production . . .

Gotta luv the 964 & 993 market trajectory of the past 5 years or so. . Who would'a thunk....

Pulling the trigger either on the '23 992 Carrera S or a '23 Cayman GTS 4.0l ... If not for the Colorado High Country elevation (8,200ft @ driveway) the Cayman GTS 4.0l 6sp manual would be a slam dunk.

Don’t forget the GT2 on the center caps and GT on the wing. Taken together, must be good for another 100hp. Just need a GT2 jacket for the summer months.

Here's the latest 12 month chart for 993 widebody/MT/Coupe sales. Data points are a mix of BaT and PCAR Market auctions with buyer's commission included. The prices that Rudy's 993's got at the Gooding's auction are plotted in bold (also with commission included).
