It works great only for 1999-2002. After that they switched to fiber optic based MOST system in 2003-2005 which is terrible and only way to upgrade is to purchase an unreliable MOST adapter and hope it works or rip it all out and start from scratch. I wish Porsche Classic would come out with a plug and play solution for those cars as well.

Good info.

I replaced all the speaker wiring in my 993 when I installed the classic headunit and amplifier in the trunk. Can see that would be trickier in a 996.

So if I was planning on buying the classic radio soon, should I wait because a newer model is coming out? Or is it just out of stock and same model is coming back?

For US users it appears to be no different - the addition of DAB doesn't benefit us. However, if you can find an old one you may be able to secure a deal given it's about to be replaced.

I really like this unit and have seen it in a 964 and looks fantastic. The problem - for me- is that it cant be connected to a CD player unit ( currently have a Becker Indianapolis 7920 with a Silverstone 10 CD changer in my 88 ) and despite having over 10K songs in SD cards , still have lots of my 70s and 80s music on CDs only .... shame really it cannot be connected to a CD changer afaik....

Hi Giorginetto,

It is relatively easy to transfer the CDs onto a hard drive and then to the Micro SD cards for the PCNR. I did this via iTunes on my laptop.

I did my ~1000 CDs 13 years ago in .wav format, took quite a while (weeks) while sitting at my PC doing work. Then did a wav->mp3 conversion through a batch process.

One hint - don't do apple standards, keep with higher rate mp3 or wav. Apple controls usage.

A lot of time, but once you do it, never look back!

And keep a couple back-ups around...

Go the whole hog. Stream Amazon muisc or Spotify from your phone and forget about CD's and or SD cards. In addition to all 'my' music being available at the touch of a button (or voice command as I have Alexa in the car) it's opened up new music to me I would never have encountered otherwise.

Good point on new music through Spotify. If I was 20-40 years younger (my daughter) that's what I would do. But having my entire CD collection on the phone and PC/Mac, without needing an internet connection (on the plane in the old days), is comforting. Still thinking of ripping my LPs someday.. Call me the B word!

Think about it this way- Spotify and Amazon music have already ripped your CD's for you. Since you are streaming from your phone to the headunit, you can have your collection available 'offline' on your phone so you don't need an active Wi-Fi signal. And that way you have them on the plane too.

I was browsing their online parts catalogue here: https://content.eu.porsche.com/prod/...2584B90052F64F

It seems they have integrated Apple Car Play in the new version. Would be interesting to see how it works.
