Thinking the other design is camouflage, maybe?

If you want a 911 with an ICE and MT, suggest you order it now.

it is doubtful that PAG will totally omit active aero.

Yes, that is the active aero version. It is not going anywhere.

That’s not part of Porsche’s playbook. I believe all cars with vertical grill slats have also had a big fixed rear wing. Either an option package or separate model, IMO.

Not disagreeing, but wasn’t it already part of their playbook for 992.1? When the 992 launched a lot of individuals did not like the horizontal active aero so they generally opted for the sport design, many still are.

I don’t think that’s how it works. Unless you have an in.

To have the body creases down the side is truly uncharacteristic of a Porsche (setting aside new 992 GT3 RS / S/T where potentially one could rationale them solely on the basis of aero needs).
The updated Panamera is being advertised as the third generation but seems to be more of a 2.5 gen due to the lack of a complete redesign, most likely because they were trying to save money on a legacy product that doesn’t sell well or align to their electrified future. Given that fact, they are limited to tweaking the existing stamping tools for the body panels in ways that are considered “tool safe”, whereby you are removing material from the tool rather than needing to add material to it (which requires a brand new tool and costs millions of dollars). The injection molding tools for bumpers and fascia’s must be a lot cheaper or just plain easier to modify than the stamping tools because those seem to get a full update for every refresh and often for different trim levels.

To add on... those vertical flaps articulate to open and close. You can see the pivot points for each individual flap in this photo if you zoom in. Additionally, you can see the arm which is connected to the inner-most flap to move it (the others must then be linked together in daisy-chain fashion).

If the vertical slat aero on the front is limited to the sport design front fascia and required as is on the .1 for the aerokit, that will potentially reduce desirability on the aerokit, as well as the sport design front, and make the 992.1 cars with aerokits more desirable. Curious to see if that vertical slat active aero on the front is model wide, or only when the sport design is optioned.

I'd love too see a photo with it fully closed (which I assume it does since the inner most flap aligns with the angles on the bumper).

ask and ye shall receive.... for the record the test cars with the horizontal grills do not have active aero.... but if you look at the detail on this bumper its pretty clear that this is basically the finished product
