I really hope those fog light "pods" are fake. Those were one of my most hated design elements on 997.

Default .2 mechanical changes?

We all know how the gen 2 refreshes change the look of the 911. There are slight changes to vents, taillights, headlights, wheel styles etc... Porsche make these changes either impossible or financially prohibitive to retrofit to the gen 1 car. So without a doubt a 992.2 will look fresher. But I'm curious about any mechanical changes. Porsche hides those rather well.

So I had a 997.2 - the introduction of the direct injection had a big impact on the engine power and exhaust note vs. the .1 (also the PCM offered touchscreen PCM w/built in Bluetooth - very significant upgrade for those that dd their cars). Then I also had a 991.1 and .2. and there obviously the introduction of turbos made a night and day difference. So what's it going to be with 992.1 to 992.2 mechanical changes? prob. not hybrid? I'm expecting the 911 will go with synthetic gas at the next full redesign. I'd be pissed if they added double wishbones to the front suspension across the model range (b/c I'm waiting on a 992 GTS right now). They just upgraded the PCM this year, so that's probably not a .2 item. A new fully digital gauge cluster is no biggie. Transmissions can't change much. And unless they move to a NA, a slight bump in power isn't a big deal either.

Anyone else predict any other potentially meaningful mechanical changes for the refreshed 992?

That gauge cluster change is indeed significant, many people don't believe those video game dashboards belong on a sports car - I for one think the Ferrari Roma dash looks ridiculous. The particle filtration units in the exhaust are probably going to be standard now on US cars also. The 994 is a hybrid, synthetic gas is a long way away - where would you get the distribution network for it?

Porsche has seemingly successfully negotiated its foray back into F1 racing. They will be an engine supplier and/or factory team staring in 2026. The next F1 regulation changes take effect in 2026 and mandate synthetic fuel... Porsche and Siemens broke ground on an E-fuel (synthetic gas) plant in punta arenas Chile in 2021. Also, Porsche has categorically denied that any 911 will ever be electric (thankfully).

So, there could be a hybrid version, but my guess is sythectic gas 911 in 3 yrs.

Those front bug eye lights on stalks are awful. No thanks.

Rear with central pipes looks better. I’ll probably just stick with my 992.1 Targa and wait for an Akrapovic replacement centre pipe set up with carbon bumper and diffuser. It will fit the 992.1 too.
Update done. No silly bug lights.

It appears that the Porsche camouflagers successfully tricked some of us into ‘appreciating’ our 992.1s for a minute. Those lights on stalks are NOT in the official design. Thank me later.

I never stop appreciating how lucky I am to live in a safe environment with food and water and healthcare and education. I’m enormously appreciative of how fortunate I am that my life has reached a point where I am able to own and drive these cars that are totally out of reach for 99.9% of the global population. I appreciate my good fortune every day and the design of the lights won’t change that.

The rear bumper, pipes & diffuser of the 992 GTS is the only part I do not particularly love and if an Akrapovic centre pipe and facelift kit becomes available to change it to a more aesthetically pleasing 992.2 design then I’ll probably take it.
It won’t be on my list of top 100 life goals in the coming years though. I will continue to stare in awe at these cars every time I see one and continue to pinch myself in disbelief that I am the prospective owner of one.

It would be pretty funny if Porsche put out a Ring time for the 992.2 GT3 before they can muster one up for the 992 GT3 RS.

Default Apple dash

I’m guessing the 992.2 will have the apple CarPlay dash- like what was announced at the recent apple event.

also looks certain that at least the gts if not all the Carreras will be mild hybrid. Would love someone “in the know” to confirm.

glad I have a 992.1 on the way. . I need a real tach.

Unlikely to say the least. Porsche is not going to give their entire dash screen up to Apple for CarPlay. That preview will come to Hondas, Toyotas, Kias, and Hyundias, and eventually into BMW and Lexus before we see it in Porsches. Likely VW will be the first VWAG cars to adopt that. Porsche introduced CarPlay a little later, and I would doubt they will integrate that into their cars as one of the first. The 992 will likely get the Taycan dash w/o an analog tach. The changes are iterative, not major, especially since the 992 was a major change. Expect it to stay relatively the same for not only the .2 but also probably for the 994 generation before another major dash change.

Yes, I saw the keynote, and follow MR, but I can tell you, that while Porsche is on that list, it is doubtful that it will be integrated into the 992.2.

If anything you may see that come as an early adopter to the new Macan EV for MY2024 next year when it is announced or to the new 718 generation when they come out, though I suspect the SUV will be a more suitable testing ground for the product than a performance sports car like the 718, though since the 718 is rumored to be an EV that could be a landing spot for it. Likewise Apple said beginning in late 2023, which the 992.2 is expected prior to that, and that list includes carmakers who are going to be at the forefront, but my no means does that mean that all of those on the list will make it for the first round. Apple I'm sure is including as many higher end high profile luxury brands as it can on that list for marketing purposes.

I think by the time cars turn into rolling screens designed by Apple I would rather just be a passenger in the back. Every time a new version of apple car comes out the car will go crazy and stop working right just like all the other apple stuff to include the iPhone I am typing this on. This tech crap is getting out of hand.
