Can someone explain exhaust valve open/close and how does it affect performance and sound?

For those of you experiencing PDK slip, what is your viewpoint on this? Was it an unexpected consequence of the tune that puts long term reliability at risk, or something you believe is well understood and within acceptable tolerances?

PDK clutch line pressure is easily something we can change when PDK tuning comes available. We are very close to release on this! With increased clutch clamping forces you don't have to worry about clutch slip.

From what I’ve been reading, it appears if anyone, it’s the Carrera S guys and gals that may be getting the PDK slippage....
Is that accurate? Any Stage 1 Base Carrera guys getting PDK slippage? From the dyno graphs it looks like torque figures from a tuned base and S car isn’t that far apart.

Second question for Charles and the gang, will the PDK tune be treated like a data log upgrade tune or will this be a separate cost altogether?

Isn’t this supposed to be the same PDK that goes into the Turbo and Turbo S?? If so, then why does a tuned base and S slip the clutches?
Based on dyno graphs, a stock Turbo S makes more torque >=3K rpm....
Is it because the tuned 3.0L motors make more low end torque?

PDK2 is a whole separate beast and product which we will sell. They are calibrated differently between Turbos and Carreras. The PDK2 is a fantastic transmission but there is always room for improvement when making more power. More details when it becomes available.

just like slipping the clutch in a manual. Engine will seem a bit disconnected from the drivetrain. Engine Revs, but car does not accelerate forward in a predictable or expected way because the clutches are not transferring the torque. Slipping causes extra wear on the friction material, thus reducing the life of your clutches.

Well, this is a bit concerning.
I was getting all ready to pull the trigger on a tune but if I'm going to experience clutch slippage and having to purchase another tune to alleviate this condition, it's going to set me back even more $$ on a car already north of $100K. Revising the tune to lessen the boost in lower RPM's kind of defeats the purpose of getting the tune in the first place.

I guess I'll continue to ride the bench and see how this ends up playing out...

We pioneered ECU OBD flashing for the 992 and have had it out for quite some time now with lots of positive experiences and results, all it takes it going through the threads to see the feedback. The number of cars that have seen clutch slippage is quite very small, and generally it's not until you have scenarios with big turbos or higher horsepower numbers where it becomes a problem. It's not a tune "issue" it's a matter of clutch clamping forces, and is hit or miss on cars depending on mileage, clutch pack wear, etc. beyond our control. The great part about our software is being able to monitor via datalogging and revisions can be made if your car does it. Torque and boost can be limited so that the clutch slippage does not become an issue. Other software solutions don't have this ability and would put you dead in the water or charge for a new file.

The purpose of the PDK2 tune we sell will be for those who want even more out of the car beyond what the OEM software is capable of holding. Not everyone will need PDK2 software either, it's for the next level and those wanting go even faster with new added features.

Charles- If you dialed down the tune a bit would this eliminate clutch slippage for the PDK equipped cars?
