Hey Charles, just curious... would adding meth on top of stage 2 tune (for a C2S) really add anything worthwhile with stock turbos and 93 octane? If so, about how much hp would it add? Or does it really only benefit larger turbos and/or racegas?

And is pro-tuning still required or would 3rd gear pulls/datalogs be sufficient when incorporating the meth kit?

@M Engineering - Charles, question that peaked my interest. Maybe it was discussed somewhere/sometime - if so, I apologize. When I compare Carrera Base Stage1 vs Stock GTS power and torque curves they look fairly similar and terms of peak values and shape (similar not same). Knowing one achieves that with the larger GTS/S turbo's vs the tuned engine but small base turbo's, what does it mean in terms of operating parameter differences stock GTS engine/turbos vs tuned base engine/turbos like IAT, boost levels etc? While the engines are the same what does it mean for the little turbos?

@M Engineering how are existing ME customers notified when updates to their tunes are available? Do they automatically get sent new files?

Or do they need to manually contact ME from time to time to see if there are updates or new features?

Meth will benefit you at any stage, however, it's mostly seen on bigger turbo applications or those wanting the best metrics possible in straight line racing. The effective added octane is raised and IAT's drop significantly, so depending on mods it can be worth anywhere from an added 50 to 100whp. ProTuning is required for meth injection.

The little turbos simply run out of breath much more quickly and taper off on power sooner. The bigger turbos hold the power band longer, and stay on stronger.

If a major update is available, we will notify customers via our mailing list and/or social media. Customers are welcome at any time to email in and check on map revision status. Updates to maps are at no charge.

@M Engineering is there an option to keep the stock redline with ME tunes? Just out of an abundance of caution — not sure much is gained beyond the stock 7500 rev limit, based on the dyno charts. Or is there?

Sure thing. We only raise the RPM limit by 200rpm, and there is some power there to be had. It's safe and within limits.

The 200rpm raised RPM limit is standard on all of our OTS maps, but you can request it without.

Just figure keeping the stock rev limit is one less thing to potentially get flagged as indicating a tune :-)

Charles,

Is there a comprehensive list of ALL the available 'tweeks' you have in the playbook for the 992 platform? Is such a list provided when ordering a tune? I realize the most common of these are listed on the website and frequently discussed here but it would be nice to know what more obscure options are available.

Website lists these:
  • Raise Rev Limiter (standard on all M-Engineering OTS maps)
  • PSE Exhaust Valve Modifications (true ON or OFF function, no need to buy a standalone PSE valve controller). Our most popular modification! Adds sound and power without any hardparts modification.
  • Loud Cold Start Elimination
  • Auto Start/Stop Elimination
  • Removal of pops and burbles in sport mode
  • Free Revving in N (neutral), vehicle no longer capped at 3500rpm

What other tweaks / options have been discussed outside of these?

I would love to see a 'what's possible' list.

Based on their website, I wouldn't have thought you could leave the stock rev limit in place. It's a matter of knowing what to ask and you don't know what you don't know.
Another option not in the list that I've read as you can do is having the exhaust valve open by default in Normal open too (similar to how it opens automatically in Sport).

Charles,

Can you confirm that alternative discussed here is an option for the exhaust valve behavior?

99% of folks opt for the full PSE valve opening which we do with our mod. If you would like to tinker with the valve percentage we can adjust for that as well. We don't advertise that, but we can do it. It's a personal preference thing that differs between everyone's tastes and the exhaust on their car.

Makes perfect sense, but glad to know it's an option if I want to dial it back from 100%. Thanks Charles.

Finally installed my stage 2 tube on my C4s. I don’t know what took me so long. It’s a completely different car now.
