However, my friend's Mustang had an exhaust with a severe drone at about 2300 RPM where when the car reached that RPM, it felt like this loud, unpleasant exhaust sound was resonating in the middle of my skull. That is what I would define as drone.

Other exhausts, like the Remus in my F80 M3 sound somewhat louder than stock and is noticeable in steady state crusing but does not have an unpleasant resonance, though I can see how someone would say it drones if they want the exhaust to sound as quiet as stock.

Even my stock PSE exhaust with M Engineering tune the forces exhaust flaps open fully in Sport mode sounds louder then stock PSE and actually even imparts a bit more of vibration in the car, but, to my ears, that's not droning either.
