I have seen photos of the tips that were painted black, was told it was a custom job by the shop that installed them but I don't know any of the details on the process. For whatever that's worth, it is at least doable.

Hate to revive an old thread, but I’m having a real hard time picking an exhaust. I’ve probably spent hours researching and haven’t gotten anywhere meaningful. They really all do sound similar in videos. Flat 6 motorsports has done a great job comparing, but not comprehensive.

Case of analysis paralysis. What did people ever do before videos were posted of so many choices.

I live close enough and have PSL seats at COTA and get to watch the GT races which allows fans to get close to the cars. Close enough to see the exhaust setups and they don’t seem to use over the shelf setups. They look like a box with heat shielding on top. These cars use the 4.0 so apples to oranges but next year I’m going to ask the mechanics who makes the exhaust systems. It’s probably Porsche but they sound awesome. Same can be said about the Porsche cup cars that run during F1 races. They sound like straight pipes to me, no mufflers.

At the end of the day, the exhausts aren't going to sound dramatically different. There are only so many ways to make an exhaust on these. Some considerations I'd have (since sound and performance aren't too dramatically different) would be quality/craftsmanship, materials, value, etc. I probably have a better appreciation for manufacturing and the people involved, but might also be a factor for others. The Akrapovic is a system we get overwhelmingly high satisfaction feedback on from customers. It remains the most popular system at Flat 6!

Just my personal cliff notes in a few words on the systems I reviewed on my car:
- Akrapovic: Impeccable quality
- Kline: Best overall tone for me
- Soul Valved: PSE+
- Soul Non-Valved: Optimized for power (if you're going with more performance like turbos, etc.)
- Tubi: Rowdy
- iPE: Good at the bi-polar nature of a valved system
- Cargraphic valve controller: Good for the PSE guy who doesn't really want an exhaust

I don't think you can go wrong on any of these. We tried to focus on high quality systems or well known brands for our review of them. Everyone is a little different with some different preferences and concerns. We try to be objective in the process but a lot of times, it might just come down to what speaks to you as an individual. I don't think you have to overthink it, your gut will probably be right!

If you're up for an exhaust chat, I'm happy to run you through various configurations and help point you in the right direction. I've heard most in person, and did the test driving during our product development.

iPE + Cragraphic does it for me. In sport/+ mode and CG valve controller open its rowdy, very loud particular on cold start, exhilarating sound experience ....in comfort mode and CG controller closed its very comfy to cruise and talk to your passenger w/o any annoying sounds....and in between is the iPE in sport/sport+ but CG controller closed, much more pronounced than PSE yet controlled and not over the top.
When I cold start my car at car meets with CG controller on open...I get quite a few surprised stares...then I go into quiet mode and enjoy the cruise home.

Sound like (no pun intended) that you have several variants there because with the iPE, you can turn the PSE on or turn the CG controller on (open) and that you will get the enhancement of the iPE in any of those three situations (off, PSE, CG open). Curious how the iPE with PSE on compares to stock PSE and how much more the CG adds to it? Do you notice the drone at 2k rpm that he mentions in the video?

In terms of comparison, Flat6 did a nice series of videos where you can compare IPE vs PSE with valves open and closed. Some links I provided before
IPE + CG
Here from cold start and I open and close the CG valves at times

IPE only

I don't recognized the drone of the IPE alone at 2k RPM that flat6 mentioned. Maybe my ears just are not sensitive enough. I sure have drone when in sport/sport+ and the CG open. The entire cabin vibrates here at certain RPM. But to my surprise I use that mode more often than I initially thought.

Yeah. Maybe I am overthinking it, but something tells me I either want the CG valve controller OR the iPE exhaust (to use with PSE) but not both.

I've watched the reviews. Thanks for posting the video.

I would start with the IPE and you can add the CG later for a few 100 if you want. The IPE is just an upgrade from PSE at all RPM’s and even gives you a little more power (not enough to really feel it though). The CG just does one thing which is open the valves at zero RPM vs gradually in stock controller.

It's a little drony at 2K rpm, but I have 200 cell cats along with the IPE Ti exhaust.

BTW - Does anyone have equal length headers installed? Any power or sound difference felt? I heard a 991.2 with equal lengths and it sounded amazing. Almost exotic car sound and brings out more of the flat 6 howl.

Does the CG have memory so that you don't need to press a button to open valves for each drive?
