Base Carrera vs Carrera S

Pretty sure most of us here would prefer the S over the base 911. Not everyone is willing to pay the additional cost and claim that the base model is inexplicably faster and more "responsive" which is just ridiculous. I see the same denial of the E-Ray and Z06 by the C8 base model owners.

I do have a 992 base and I wouldn't say I love it and one of the reasons why is because it has TOO much traction. It's so good/capable that it's not as much fun. The last thing I need is more technology that gives it more traction but adds layers of distortion between my inputs and what the tires are doing.
I've had other cars that have rear axle steering, torque vectoring, dynamic steering and all those other acronyms and I turn them off if I can. It numbs the driving experience.
If I wanted the fastest car, I could drive an EV like a Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and would feel like driving a computer game - with no soul.
I've thought about swapping my base for a S simply bc I'm hoping that the extra power will be enough to overwhelm the rear tires a bit more bc the base does not have enough power to do so. However, the simple fix is to add a tune to the base instead.

My base has PCCBs and while conventional wisdom says that's a no-no, it's one of my fave aspects of the car - particularly not dealing with brake dust.
The reason for not getting a S over a base is I prefer having a motor where I can wind it out on the street and savor those sonorous 6-7.5k rpms without doing ridiculous speeds like I would in anything faster than a base...especially as this is my daily.
When I went to go fast or drive on the track, I have much faster cars in my garage for that so for me base > S. And there's a tons of reviews that say the same thing to the poster above that claims we all want a S but can't afford it...

I had a choice of base S GTS and chose the S because I don't care for center lock wheels, lowered height, SD bumpers. People should just look at what each trim offers and decide what they want from their vehicle.

For me the S is the sweet spot.

I wanted a 911 manual so my only choice was to start with a T.
The dealer wanted me to sell at MSRP only if I configured the T with a minimum of 20K options, which made/ makes no sense (to me ) ?
Then I was offered a low optioned, manual S, firm configuration but that still had be built. Took delivery 2 months ago and loving it. Maybe a little heavier than the T.
I consider myself lucky with that deal.

Turbo is AWD and Automatic. GT3 has no backseats and isn't the same as a DD. Obviously these things are use case dependant but if you want a RWD Manual 992 to drive every day or with kids, GTS is the pinnacle...

I think it’s pretty subjective. I think it makes sense for you. But for me, I’d go S or GT3 or CPO Sport Classic.

Was offered an 2S coupe allocation w/only a four month wait, so I took it (I was actually looking for a Targa 4 or base coupe allocation)
Had two 2023 base model cars (coupe & cab) and to be honest, they were perfectly fine. In fact, I enjoyed the 19/20 rims a heck of a lot more on local surface streets. Those cars were bought new, but not my builds and never connected with them. I am now very excited to be getting an S made to my specifications. My salesman called it a "gentleman's spec". LOL
And why wouldn't anyone want an S promising more performance? Thing is, I don't keep my cars that long, so resale is a big consideration. I was looking at an S that was incoming a couple months ago and was late to the party. The dealer said they had a million people crawling over that 2S coupe. To me, it just shows an S has more market appeal, I think it's just plain fact. However, I agree that all 911's have an appeal, some just cast a wider net. Throw in a manual and that opens up a whole new group of buyers.
I would be perfectly happy with another "base" 911, but got the opportunity to step up my game and went for it! And to those people who insinuate to others, "You just couldn't afford the S"... that is just plain rude.
