Will US cars have a rear defogger? I didn't see lines in the rear glass on any of the press demo cars.

Yes they will... It says it on standard equipment list actually.

I was wondering about the rear defroster on the lightweight glass a little while ago and found some posts describing how it is a very thin metallic mesh element rather than the usual heating elements

Light glass comes as standard everywhere, the only option I see in the configurator is the privacy glass.

Hypothetically, if I took the LWBS out of my 718 and put them in my 992 T, would they work error free?

Just changed the configuration (as planned, before January), said it is "final" for me and signed on it. Back in October, only placed a place holder order with an interim configuration. The "allocation" was for April and already confirmed.

I think the "ordering" process is different here in Germany and also, I don't pay much attention besides "configure the car" and "wait for it".

There are minor exceptions to this rule. Example: a dealer is building a demo car for show that is extremely heavily optioned or a Porsche Exclusive client (Carrera GT / 918 Spyder clients).
This will change over time as supply becomes readily available. Same seems to be happening with Racing Buckets (hence why it was announced as an option on a T, but is not on the configurator).
Side note: I do like the feature of having lightweight glass on the 992 T, but still retains the rear defogger (please correct me if I’m wrong about this). That’s one item that bothered me about the 991.2 T.
buckets returning would be awesome!

I believe the answer is NO. I went to my dealership last week to try and identify ways to get the LWCB into the T after the fact and they could not find a way to deal with 2 issues... The first issue is that the rails in a 992 are unique to the car vs other cars, and the airbag lights will always be on if you remove non LWCB and put in LWCB according to the parts department and the tech... I guess the computer is set up in such a way that it is always looking for the airbag of the original seat? Maybe others who have done seat swapping can confirm or deny this issue...
The other issue in my scenario was cost. To buy a set from Porsche, they quoted me $14K not including a new set of rails... FAR MORE than the configurator price tag of $5900 lol... They basically looked up a set of bucket seats on the parts page for a 992 that was optioned with them, and that was the price... they were obviously also back ordered.

The lightweight glass on the 991T was polycarbonate (think plexiglass) from the RS cars. It would actually flex if you pressed on it. Since it was not actual glass the traditional grid or matrix defrost heating elements wouldn't work. I never had trouble with fogging or defrosting in mine though, and I drove it year-round including cold winters.

The lightweight glass on the 992 T is a thinner mineral glass sandwich that is available throughout the line. But that allows a defrost heating element to work.

So the option for EVEN lighter glass (see below) is not avai in USA, but is avai in Europe, Mexico, Australasia and numerous other territories.
Weird! Why would that be? Is there some law about it?

Lightweight and noise insulated glass incl. privacy glass £387.00
Lightweight glazing made of compound glass and acoustic film, for windscreen, door - and rear window.
Offers a weight advantage over 4 kg and improved interior acoustics by minimising external noise such as rolling and wind noise.
Tinted glazing on the rear side windows and rear window.

Note: Not in conjunction with the rear wiper option (8M1)

Defrosting in my early 1970s (air cooled) 911T was a pain!

The lightweight glass (not sure about how it's tinted) is standard on the T in the US, optional on most, if not all, other models.

God bless you,
TT

that seems like an option for privacy tinted lightweight glass, but otherwise seems identical to the lightweight glass that is standard on all Ts

That is the glass that is standard in the US but I assume without the tinting? There are lots of different laws state-by-state about window tint on cars.
