I'm pretty sure the engine in the GT4 RS is not same engine as the GT3, it just has the same displacement.

And to be clear, this would NOT be the same 4.0 that is in the GT3. As Lieberman said, this would be the 3.0 that's ALREADY in the 911 Carrera. No need to engineer anything to fit. It already fits. They'll just punch the 3.0 engine out to 4.0 and drop the turbos, which is what they did for the Boxster 4.0 and GT4, which does NOT have the GT3 4.0. So it will make less HP than a Carrera S and very slightly more than a base Carrera.
Interestingly, if a Carrera T gets the Boxster 4.0, I think that means RIck Deman at Deman Motorsports could punch out the engine further to 4.5L, shorten the gear ratios, and get 560 hp and insane torque, like he does for the GT4. To me, that would be the ultimate 911, hands down.

I love the 4.0 in the GTS/GT4/Spyder, but I'm not sure I'd like it in it the 911 - they'd have to massively redo the gearing (much shorter). Having lived 4 years now with the 3.0T in my Carrera T, I think this is one of Porsche's best engines ever and would be pretty sad not to see it in a 992 Carrera T.
Just my 2 bits from a current owner.
cheers!

Actually, I think it is the same engine. I believe that's what Walliser and AP said on Spike's Car Radio. To be clear, the GT4RS does not have the same engine as the GT4.

Even more than 33%! That's the same engine Rick Deman increases to 4.5L. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im9ARWrNBt8

Then again I remind myself there were only 2000 T's made...so how many people have actually driven one at length?

How far behind can the 992T be?

I know that Porsche needs a low cost entry point to the brand. As a poster child for brand dilution, the Base Macan is indeed Porsche’s Maserati Ghibli, but at least, Maserati saw fit to make the Ghibli sound like a Maserati.
Perhaps, the 992T will get the 4 cylinder 718 engine for those seeking an even slower 911 with doesn’t sound great. 😜
