Default PCCB very dusty!

For all those people hoping that PCCB will lead you to the utopia of a brake dust free life, I’m sorry to say in the 992 the dust even in the PCCB is very bad. I assume the pads are the culprit. I also got some brake judder in the mountains that I never felt in the 991. Really kind of disappointed in all of this - definitely will need to find some better pads. Hoping the 991 pads fit.

Never had dust like that on any PCCB Porsche I’ve owned.

That's very disappointing and frankly pretty odd. I hope Porsche takes note of this and changes the pad. Rightly or wrongly the dust advantage of PCCB is a selling point.

Sounds like the PCCB pads were also affected by the new legislation prohibiting copper and other substances. I suspect that PCCB’s may also be worse on track than before (like the new iron pads)

Main reason I got PCCB's. This would suck. If this is the case, should have pocketed 10k.

Same. Wouldn’t have bothered here either.

To be fair I drove the car very hard for 600 mountain miles. But I’ve done that a lot and never seen anything like this with my 991 PCCB cars

All brakes cam be dusty. I installed a new set of OE pads at 10 AM on the Pista on Sunday. By 3 PM they were gone and the wheels were caked in dust.

Thing is that a lot of these soft OE pads for street use, simply don't last once they get a bit hot. All that pad material you wear off, have to go somewhere.

Try the RSC2 pads if they fit, they will last a lot longer and give you less dust.

I had PCCB on my 718 Spyder. Street use and 1 track day. No noticeable dust over 5000km time period.

Was thinking yesterday about going with PCCB on GT3. But now, makes me think even more about the value.

@sgroer thanks for sharing!

As long as there is pad alternatives. What does it matter? From the perspective rotational and unsprung mass, it's a pretty deal. Yes, years ago where the iron brakes were much smaller, weight mattered a lot less. But now that each iron rotor is twice as heavy as the PCCB, then it starts to matter. A front disc on a 991.2 is about 26 lbs. A PCCB is between 12 and 13 lbs. or so. I would not run the anchors on a weight sensitive car like a GT3.

I have a 992 with ceramics & I haven’t seen that on mine even after a track day. You may have faulty pads.

Can aftermarket pads be run safely without damaging the rotors, does Porsche care. Honest question as I've never had ceramic rotors before my Spyder, which is gone. Also because PCCB rotors are bloody expensive.

From a braking perspective on track and street I've been happy with with irons on a 981 GT4 and 991.2 GT3 at CTMP/Mosport which is quite a fast track.

Yes for sure there is unsprung mass advantage but the GT3 isn't lightweight in the first place.

Maybe if tou get PCCB and magnesium wheels, then you're talking a noteworthy amount to maybe make a difference.
