No you shouldn't, not if you install it at the correct angle. Take a pic of yours on removal.

One guy had an issue, and it was bc he moved the clock spring too far off.

Ok, I may not be familiar enough with the process but when you say, “install it at the correct angle”, how you you CHANGE the angle unless you press the button under the column to move it? It’s not like that clockspring has it’s own gyroscope, right?!? I’m sure I’m overthinking this but, based on the photo below it looks like it only snaps into one position/angle. Please help me figure out what I’m missing conceptually, thank you! -Dom

Ok, so as long as I don’t let it move & put it back in the same orientation on the new “stalk assembly” I should be good without calibration? Thanks for the clarification, appreciate the insight! -Dom

Correct. I've swapped that part 3-4 times, countless steering wheels, and no calibration needed.

One more question for the group - is the conversion from MF stalk to MF steering wheel (after programming, of course) done simply by REMOVING that stalk and putting the cap in it's place? Is the question clear? Please advise, thank you! -Dom

Can anyone else that has come across this offer some insight please? Seems like it would be a common scenario for anyone that ADDED MF (as opposed to just upgrading it from a car that already had the functionality). Thanks in advance!

Looking for some advice on a steering wheel swap for my 997.1 6 speed. In looking for a steering wheel I came across on with MF and the sport dial. I don't currently have MF and was not really in need of adding it. I got the wheel and as it turns out, the airbag connector to the clock spring is different. The wheel is from a 971 and it looks like I need a new wiring harness. My questions are:

Can I just replace the harness - some airbags come with the harness, so can I just use this to make it work?
If I choose to use the MF, I would need an adapter and I am guessing I need the one with for the 971. Will the sport dial function to serve any purpose?

Any help would be appreciated. I would like to make sure the airbag works when I put it together! I attached a few photos of the wheel.

hi Dom, during my search I found there is a blank to install over the noW removed lever.

Does anyone know if I buy 991.2 wheel with the sport chrono dial but I choose not to convert to the dial can I just unplug the harness and remove the dial?

Yes, but you will need a new rear cover and possibly a front cover. Otherwise, a big empty hole.

You just unplug MF, toss in some blanks, and no new harness needed.

Hey guys just got everything installed and it went smoothly I think... I went from sport design w/SC to gt leather wheel with MF and heat. MF seems to be working. I am getting 4-6 different warnings, is that because I have brought the car to have heat activated? I do have code and everything, just needs to go to dealer

I installed the red one today, start to finish it took me 1 1/2 hrs including the 15min wait time after disconnecting the battery. I took my time

Everything went well and no lights on the dash

I'll be selling the black one

I forgot wanted to post pictures for guys converting from sport design. After removing the clock spring I removed the bottom right lever that controlled the dash screen and purchased the blank side for it.
