I agree, but 3 months and 200 miles before a second owner is taking that to a whole new level...

Then in only four more months and a couple of thousand miles, for sale again. Just a bit unusual.

Also, what do you make of this "Steering Support Limited" error message in one of the Kia photos?

???

Nice catch though ..

Who knows. I think we're spending too much time on this car. My gut tells me something isn't adding up with this car. After all, a KIA dealer?? Must be a story here???

I was thinking the same....then again, I traded in a 2013 M3 that was incredibly clean in for a $10,300 1st-generation Tacoma (also incredibly clean, given it had 170k on the clock). I needed a reliable truck for work and play, wanted to pocket all of those monthly payments, and wanted something that cost less than $1k a year to operate (depreciation and maintenance). All goals achieved, and enough money saved to get in the 991S game....and I have gotten more thumbs up on the Tacoma than the M3 (due to the lift kit and some nice mods by the previous owner).

Some people buy an expensive car and feel like it just isn't for them. A lot of people see a car as transportation from point A to point B: being reliable and practical is really all they need; once they own a really nice ride, and realize they are tossing away $1k a month that really isn't being appreciated, they move back down to "reliable and practical". Others get a taste of what a high-performance car is like, and can never go back. I know people in both camps, and they may move from camp to camp depending on their situation at the time.

A lot of sports car owners have multiple cars so low miles is not unusual. The product of bigger and getting bigger garages. That 2012 red 911s a few pages back has 6500 miles on it, and 3 owners in 4 years. Crazy, some definite haircuts in that chain, and not a lot of enjoyment using the car.

On Carmax, but not really a hot deal - $79K, 12K miles. Looks like it could be 1 owner.

Note that this one says non-transferable from SoCal.

i think it's an ok deal, especially if you want some of the benefits that come with buying at Carmax. the miles are on the "lowish side" (6k/year) so a small premium is applied to that. full retail ("Porsche dealership") would suggest a price of $84,550, but since it's at Carmax it's priced 7% lower than (remember, no haggle at Carmax). A private party price would obviously be below the Carmax one (maybe closer to $76k-$77k, but you don't have the option of returning the car back for a full refund which is worth something too . What i do know is that Carmax pays very little for higher priced sports cars as it really isn't their market.

I've been following this thread occasionally as I've been searching for a 981 Cayman S/GTS. I can't help but ask, partly out of curiosity, partly because it seems silly not to consider a 911, but is it typical for 911s to depreciate significantly more than Caymans? Are Cayman sellers just significantly more optimistic, and are the cars actually trading for less?

I've noticed the same thing... Had a 987 Cayman S and definitely considered a 981 Cayman S as my next Porsche, but nice used 991 pricing seems remarkably close to used 981 pricing, even though the original MSRP's of the 991's are usually much higher...

I was also looking into that as well, posted a couple of threads. Here are my observations:

2 year old 981 S, say 15k miles, will be priced about 80% of retail. 2014 981S with same mileage priced around 76% 2-year old 991S will be around 72% of retail, a 3-year old with similar mileage around 63%. The initial depreciation is much steeper on a 991, probably because of all the "add-on" options that aren't added on your typical 981S build. Those $15k in extra options on a 991 bring very little at resale.

Once you get past those 3 years, the depreciation is pretty similar. You can see 2012 C2S models in the mid 60's, and a 2009 C2S will still be low 50's with another 20k miles on the clock. 12k depreciation over 3 years and 20k miles is not bad at all. Cayman's follow the same pattern: a desirable 2011 987S with 35k miles is still going to be mid 40's or higher, compared with the mid to high 50's 2014 w/15k miles.

I do notice that when bookmarking these cars, a 991 will sell much faster on average than a 987 will, assuming both are similarly well priced. The demand on a 991 is probably stronger, but the 987 don't seem to get discounted to liquidation price often: buyers are out there, just takes time to find the right buyer, so dealers tend not to slash prices like they would on other cars, say an F80 M4, which might drop $7-8K before it sells.

Well, I have looked for months over a 1500 mile radius and ended my search today. I finally traded my Macan Turbo for this 2015 991 Carrera S with 3000 miles and clear bra over the entire front and shoes since new. Got what I consider a really nice deal that makes good sense for a retiree like me. This deal finally came thru after after months of shopping and inquiries and haggling with other dealers. I love this 911. Has all the top options on my wishlist. CPO thru 3/21. I wanted one of the last NA 3.8L Carreras with lots of options and sport exhaust, in colors I like, at a cost I could stomach, and this is it.
Check out the Coco mats that I'm ordering shown in the red Cayman. I do like bling!

Been following this thread for a while and thought I'd share. Braman has a 2013 C4S. MSRP $131k, 7800 miles for $85k. CPO as well. Loaded car. Only option missing is Sport Exhaust.

Congrats! Very nice. Glad your search finally paid off! Now the real fun begins.

Tell us a bit about the deal? How far from home? Did you see it before buying? Any details that may help others is always appreciated.
