The 991.1 Targa 4 GTS (5k miles) at my dealer went from $149K on Friday to $167K this morning.

That car has sat there for 60+ days and they lowered it from $158K to $148K incrementally over last 45 days, only to shoot the price up by $20,000+ overnight

When I was looking for my car I saw this happen a handful of times, and often would then see the car listed as sold within a few days of the price hike. The only thing I could come up with is that the car eventually sold as they lowered the price, but they didn’t want that lower price to be the baseline that people used for what a similar car should be valued at, so before marking as sold the dealer jacks up the price that’s listed on their site.

I'm a 997 guy but found this on Craigslist. Seems reasonable but I don't know 991 prices as well as I do 997. No affiliation.

This T with buckets could be really nice and priced right too. Would have scooped it up myself but need back seats.

sounds like a good deal to me. I assume you know the car well and it has a good car fax. Why only 2 years though? Don’t look for it to go up quite yet.

1 local owner, clean carfax. I've kept my last few cars for 2 years so just planning along with my history! Don't need the car to appreciate, but just want to make sure I'm not buying something I'm going to get fleeced on when selling in 2 years! An enthusiast spec Carrera T seems like it should hold value relatively well?

We are living in an unprecedented time in regards to the stock market, supply chain, etc. No one can promise what the market will be in 2 years.

The target of 2 years seems super odd--I've had cars less than a year that I didn't like, and had others a long time. Had my 2016 GTS since new and can't imagine replacing it with anything.

Maybe car ownership is more like dating until you find "the one"?

For a lot of us who are into their 50's and 60's it's a changeover that really hasn't been seen in the sports car market during our courtship with performance cars. Powerplants, tranny's, fuel sources, etc.. are all now in play, and what you like is what you like. Not as easy to get the old configurations as it once was, and the result is scarcity and dramatic price increases. I don't see it going away.
