But seriously, the F1 video really explains why PDK is such a key to 991 pure performance over an MT and why I moved away from MT after 40 years of driving MTs, including some of it on the track and years on the Autobahn.
...except that PDK isn't really that much like a F1 transmission - it's got a bunch of compromises for streetbility. On the track, I'd still take a pure dogring sequential over PDK; on the street, I'd still prefer a manual.

Here we are, on page 12, talking about micro-seconds and performance again.

I want a car that is FUN to drive, PDK ruins the fun for me.

I just test drove a PDK 991S. Video game quality.

My 991 3.4 manual is so much more engaging - nothing is as good as a three pedal car. Anyone who thinks PDK is "shifting" is fooling himself. Porsche marketing is now calling PDK, "manual"... What a joke. This 991 could be my last Porsche.

Be sure to make a youtube video for posterity now. :thumb up:

After a few laps with a real manual you will understand why it is better!

Nice video.

Shame to take the hand off the wheel for every shift.

Not just hand off wheel- foot off gas, foot off floor, foot onto clutch, shoulder off seat, butt wiggling around, body twisting every which way. Pretty much the opposite of what every driving instructor teaches, which is maintain contact with the control surfaces of the car- seat, steering, floor. Sorry MT guys but the shift lever simply is not a control surface.

Real racers drive around with their power train uncoupled at random moments, because it's too easy otherwise!

Why do people keep bringing up the crank start engines?
Are they trying to say "Old technology is never as good"?
Do they really believe they can equate a crank start/starter motor to the PDK/Manual transmission debate? Are they reaching that hard?

I will once again reiterate my point of view;
I want a car that is FUN to drive. Hand cranking the starter is not fun to me. An automatic tranny is not fun to me.

Drive whatever you think is FUN. If that is a PDK car, good for you.
Personally I will never have a car that drives itself, that is just my opinion.
Go ahead and keep your 1 millionth of a second, magazine racing, 'I think I am better than you' cars.

.
Yeah, you're right. Who needs analogical reasoning? Why use reasoning at all? Gosh. Thank you, good sir.

You do know the difference between a starter and a transmission, don't you?
You are reaching, and you know it.
You are trying to use a very bad example by bringing up old crankers. Try again, this time with something a little more appropriate to the argument.

If I tried to defend your side of the coin, I would say something like;
"Remember when cars only had 1 gear, and no clutch? Then someone introduced a car with TWO gears, and that was better? . . . . . ."

Your argument sounds like "Cars with power windows are better than cars with Manual transmissions"

Oh thanks. Actually my argument was about new technology vs old in a generally more abstract level than the narrow argument you presented for me. It was also about the unwillingness of many people to embrace new technology even when the technology and approach is superior in terms of specific metrics. My argument also had humor because I tend not to take the Internet seriously. Again, I appreciate your help. Thank you.
