Are any of you speed demon, PDK apologists at all concerned with the, as yet, unproven in the field (MTBF) mean time between failure?

There was double declutching back in the day MT's had no synchros. THAT is what I was referring to !

Nothing to do with your racing boxes !

...and nothing to do with a modern street-legal Porsche, either.

My guess (read: gamble) is it will be a typical bathtub curve. Most failures within 10 years of ownership are going to happen up front, within the warranty period. In the very long term, yes, there will be some very expensive repairs to worry about. But by then I suspect there will be a lot of aftermarket rebuilders. I don't think anybody is going to have to pay $20K to repair or replace a 10-year-old PDK.

You pay your money and you take your chances, as you do with anything else on four wheels.

If performance numbers are all that matter, we should all be driving GTRs. I find that the driving experience on a PDK vs. a Porsche manual transmission is like playing a Yamaha digital piano vs. a Steinway. The constant challenge of trying to execute perfect shifts is far more rewarding to the senses than having a computer control the logic and blipping a lever. I conjecture that the MT will leave the 911 at about the same time gasoline engines do.

Love it!

Because I just happen to be a classically trained pianist. I love my PDK and also own a Steinway grand.

I'm hoping the MT stays around for a nice long time.

Was just talking to a buddy this evening. He's driving a loaner Cayman with PDK since his Panny is at the dealer and he said he's instinctively stepped on the floor with his left foot looking for the clutch. I also find myself about to step on the non existent clutch especially when coming to a complete stop in first gear.

Some habits are hard to break.

You are missing my point ! I was merely stating people have accepted the synchro as a technological advancement, allthough its takes away the involvement of double declutching, but on the other hand can't accept PDK !

I suspect that there will be a diesel 911 very soon.
