Still not 18, huh? So... I pretty much love my MT. Does anyone know of a person with 3 legs so that manual dual-clutch would work? Do you all also believe it's what we're evolving towards as a species?

Having read the specs on how the PDK-S performs in the new GT3 it looks like they're finally getting closer to the better automanuals out there in DCT and F1 trim from M and Ferrari. I wonder if this will show up as a "performance" option on the lesser Carreras.

My guess is that it will filter its way down at some point, but I tell you the version on my new '14 is really quick and hard to imagine how fast it must be on the new GT3.

Porsche is all about new technology. Except for the 991, every Porsche I've ever owned has been manual. I love manual (and in particular engine braking on a mountain road), but PDK is faster than my arm and leg. Goodbye MT. RIP if the story is true. lol

You will be able to engine brake with a PDK, just like a manual.

I do but there's no fancy footwork involved, which I use to enjoy. After 15k miles in my 991 PDK with launch control, honestly I don't miss the MT anymore.

Nice.

How often do you partake in Launch Control?

Well, we can start using our left foot for the brake and right foot for the throttle...

After 3 PDK's I went back to the manual. It is just more fun. I drive the car for a fun car, not for the most efficient and fastest shifter.

To those who think the PDK will be 100% on even base cars because it will become too expensive to offer both transmissions, I doubt that. This is a company that will hand trace each little air vent with leather hide for $1700 if you want. There are about 150 individual options. More if you count how you do the contrasted stitching, would be thousands of permutations on the custom ordering side.

So what would be much more likely is during a 991 refresh, and the corresponding price hike on that model year it just goes up by 4k, the PDK becomes standard, and then us guys who esteem how cool the manual is have to pay 4k more as an option to get the PDK deleted.

Smoking package and deletion of model designation still will be free however.

That way they essential get to book a sale and bill a 4k PDK in every car, and for us old timers they get 8k more with a manual which costs about 3k less to make.

But that being said, I'd still pay the 4k extra, to get the manual, that's how much I like it.

Back in the muscle car days MT was a cost option. (I hope Porsche is not reading this)

There is a thread over on the other board concerning lease rates on the 991. I didn't read all 7 pages, but it seems that Porsche places a lower residual on PDK cars compared to MT cars. I never lease cars, so don't claim to be an expert, but appears Porsche thinks the 991 cars returned off lease will be worth less than the manual transmission cars. Kind of strange that this super-duper PDK is worth less on resale than the MT cars.

That is interesting if true.

I figure that when my warranty is out in 4 years or whatever the PDK that will be available for my car when it breaks and if I still own it will be way past the 991 GT3 PDK technonlgy now and much cheaper too! Damn that was a long run- on sentence.

Hehehe..........you put Porsche and "cheaper" in the same (run-on) sentence.
