Default GTS premium worth over S? Will the GTS hold value better?

Hi all,

I've been in the market for a 991.1 S or GTS, and I'm seeing quite a big price difference between the S's and GTS's - both models, with around 25-40k miles and similar builds (around $130 MSRP) have about a $20k or more difference - PDK 991.1 S's can be had for $70ish-k, and I'm seeing GTS's in the $90s.

I wanted to ask you all, when comparing to an S equipped with PASM, PSE, and Sport Chrono, is the $20K step up in price to a GTS really worth it? All that seems to be left is the wider body and powerkit - are those both really worth $20k more? Or is it that the GTS moniker will hold more value long term?

My wallet says S, but heart says GTS - any thoughts please? Thanks!

GTS will hold their value better, but that $20K difference probably isnt going to get any bigger in absolute terms.
I would get the S unless the GTS looks and extra power really strike a cord with you.
The GTS is a special car... but only you can decide if it is worth it.

This is a very tough question and I will try to be as objective a possible.

GTS will most prob hold its value better than S, that goes without saying.

GTS is more than a power kit and some Alcantara. I came from a 991.1 S to a GTS and the steering is significantly different, engine down below is different, track is wider, has wide body etc etc. The SUM of all the "small" differences absolutely results in a noticeably different driving experience.

There is no way that the current pricing will hold, but you are already seeing that after 6 years from date of sale, the GTS is at an average $15k-$20k (or more) price point VS the S, even if both the S and GTS had similar MSRPs back in 2015-2016

Is that extra $20K premium worth the above mentioned differences? Nope
Would you always keep wondering/wanting the GTS if you buy the S? Probably or may be not.. this part is very subjective
Will the $75K S be Worth $20K less in 3-4 yrs over the GTS? Probably
(similar differences are true in 997.2 GTS Vs S market)

So you have 10+ years worth of data to prove that GTS will probably always be worth more, be more desirable and demand a higher sale price. Question is whether you are willing to pay that premium Now and recoup it later.. or whether having GTS is that important to you

My humble opinion, if you are already willing to pay $75K, bite your time and keep looking for a GTS that strikes your fancy and pay the $15K more. If you aren't able to find one, the 991.1S is going to continue to hold it current value and not depreciate as fast as 991.2 (JUST my opinion, no offense to 991.2 guys) and you may be able to pick up an S if you cant find the GTS in your ballpark.

All in all, its an exciting adventure and make sure to enjoy every bit if it, the hunt is almost as good as the final kill.

drive both of them, then choose if the GTS is worth the extra coin. Remember you're buying a car you are going to enjoy not an investment.

I've not seen the production numbers, but my guess is GTS manual cars will hold their value the best just because there is less of them, and they are old school.

I would say drive them both and assess exhaust sound, suspension, response. These are different and unique to the GTS. Interior cabin engine sound is different also. The power is very noticeable. I would have ordered a base C4 if allocations were available but they were far and few between. After driving the S and seeing the improvements over the base, the GTS was the logical choice. Don’t drive a GTS if you are really happy with the S. Don’t drive the GTS if the price differential is not doable. If you drive it, I think that you will see why it is a bit more special than the S. GTS with alcantara delete and full leather interior is difficult to find but it is very nice. Good luck with the purchase.

Your wallet says S, so get an S. It’s a fine car. Neither car is an asset. Both will depreciate. Don’t go into this thinking that you will get more out on the other end for one vs the other. Unforeseen future events could cause significant differences in future values of either car.

GTS > S. Whether that's worth anything to you is subjective and personal.

If you're going to daily the car, then S is probably better because you won't feel bad about putting miles on it and the barrier to entry is a lot lower. Plus, $20k goes a long way in maintenance and upkeep. If you're going to have it as a weekend toy / garage queen, then GTS might ultimately get you better residual (as a percentage of what you paid) when it comes time to sell. I would say just shop both and when you find the first one at a price and options combo that you like - BUY IT.

Powervkit, Sportdesign body kit, GTS specific interior and RWD widebody are some attractive selling points of GTS in my opinion.
Had .1 S before and driving .2 GTS now and I like GTS much more.

It depends on how a given GTS was spec'd - I ordered mine without the mouse fur interior or centerlocks.

You can buy a S and configure the exact same as GTS. You can buy a GTS and configure the exact same as a 4S with PowerKit.

it’s a car. Configure it the way you want and drive it.

Yes the GTS will probably hold its value slightly better - but you will pay more for it. Personally I think the driving difference between the S and the GTS is modest - most of the <8% power advantage is at the high end of the RPM range and with SPASM on the S you get the same suspension. The wider track probably makes more difference than anything else. I’d rather have an S with power kit and SPASM bc I’m not crazy on the GTS interior or exterior aesthetics...but I have no doubt the GTS is the more coveted car. You can’t go wrong with either.

I'd say the GTS is worth the premium over the S if you're an enthusiast/911 fan.. If you're just a new guy looking to dip their toes in a Porsche 911, buy the S.

The widebody is enough for me.

wait when your wallet says gts too. buy what your heart wants, it will cost you le$$ in the long run
