I kinda feel like GTS or T are somewhat more special fun cars than S models.
So if I'm in your position, I will search for GTS or T models.

Worth more, definitely. Worth $20k more, I don’t think so. Either one will be a great choice!

Yes, GTS and T seem to be holding very well

Good video on the topic

Default The T

I own a .1 S. I have added some things like an Alcantara shift boot, gt4 link and sports wheel. I prefer the body and exterior trim.

For the same money as a GTS you can get a T or .2 S. Tuned at 500hp. Certainly worth more on resale as newer. I prefer NA but market prices are crazy right now. I paid 75k 3 years ago and with 10k miles could resell for a similar #.

Gts has wide body which to me alone is worth it. On 991.1 comes standard with x51 engine upgrade which cost way more to retrofit after the fact (at least on the 991.1)....

You’ll probably regret not getting the GTS if you can afford it now. “Worth it” is subjective. But GTS Values do hold way better if resale is a concern.

Some may not like what I am about to say, but I have always been the guy who likes to keep his car pristine. I wash my cars by hand to not damage the xpel & paint I spray wax after washing to remove any water spots. I only drive on the week ends and do not put a lot of miles on my summer car trying to keep the value of the car up. After my Boxster GTS purchase and reading all of the posts on the forum for the past few months about not wanting to drive due to salt on the road or do not want to put unnecessary miles on my car, or is my porsche going to hold its value. I finally realized that what I was doing was not my dream or the reason why I love these cars which was simply driving them! The only person or thing that benefits from me taking care of my vehicles the way I have in the past is the dealer or the new owner not me, so am I an owner or a care taker? Ten years from now you may not be able to buy a new gas engine in a porsche, will a silent electric porsche be enough once you are ready or will you look back and ask your self why did I not take the chance. I'd say life is to short take the leap if you can afford the GTS than go after it.

There is no reason you cannot have it both ways! I took great care of my Targa GTS and recently sold it with just over 7k miles after just over 2 years, for MSRP, but I did a lot to it and the new owner loves every little detail. Anyway, as the saying goes, buy the newest and best model one can afford.

I had a 991.1 S and was looking for more power and grip for HPDE with my friends. ( I still wanted a car I could take on road trips as well)
I drove the 991.1 GTS and than the 991.2 S (with Sport Package, sport chrono, PDK).
The 991.2 S performance is significantly better than the 991.1 GTS in acceleration and rear axle steering is a game changer.... 991.2 S will destroy 991.1 GTS on Lap times... (that was my thing)
This was almost two years ago and I found a 991.2 S for only 3k more than a 991.1 GTS at the time with roughly the same mileage.

So I pulled the plug on 991.2 S and never looked back. (always buy the newest porsche you can afford... period)

You should take them for extended test drives and choose the "best" porsche for your needs.

GTS will keep it's value a lot better, especially on the 991.1 generation as those cars are produced in relatively low numbers, and only in '15 and '16. The 991.1 is the last naturally aspirated Carrera and the GTS is the fastest of the Carreras. Future classic? Absolutely. As for the 991.2 the GTS was available almost from day one and there's a lot of them. As it's the last two years of 991.1 production there's also not many issues with them. They certainly won't blow turbos like the 991.2s...

Of the modern 911s the 991.1 GTS is maybe the safest bet, with regards to depreciation.

it’s still “just” a base Carrera. If you’re worried about depreciation buy a GT car, any GT car.
cayman GT4 or 911 GT3

Not sure in answer to the thread. I bought my 991.2 GTS last December because the MB dealer dropped their price to within $3000 of an S I was following with same model year, similar features and mileage. In this case a GTS didn’t hold a premium compared to an S.

No doubt if I could find a GTS for 10-15% more it would have been in strong consideration for me. But I ended up finding a 4S (widebody), SC, PSE, SPASM and have a hard time imagining I'm missing out majorly to the tune of another $20-30k (closer to $30k in my case). From a depreciation standpoint the answer is clear, but these cars are meant to be driven and miles drive down value so unless you're only planning less than 2-4k miles a year I'm not sure if that should be the primary factor in your decision. I think you need to be razor focused on a GTS and everything it represents (the pinnacle of a 2+2, NA, 911) because once you deviate from those requirements other cars come into focus in that price range (991 GT3's are right around the corner of the current $90k+ asking of GTS's)

That said I do have a chip on my shoulder and always wonder what im missing from the X51 powerkit (I have no desire for the other GTS parts), but plan on bridging the gap with catted headers and a tune. But even then the current power is more than sufficient for backroads.

No wrong answers for a 991, even a 'base' Carrera will feel special!

Contrary to some enthusiastic opinions, the GTS differences are limited to only the aesthetic bits (bumper, badge, wheels, alcantara, etc.), bump in power with the X51, and wide body on the rear-drive cars. Any "steering or suspension" differences are due to something like RAS (991.2 only) or SPASM that you can spec in an S. The GTS is no "holistically enhanced" 911; it's just a special options package.

It's impossible to argue that a GTS isn't "more special" than an S; it absolutely is and I myself (I have a .2 S) would have happily elected for a GTS even at a 10-15% markup- but if you can find an S with a similar spec, there is little reason to justify a 20-30k premium unless you just have to have a GTS (which by itself is also a good reason). But let's be honest here... why speculate that you'll somehow keep resale value higher than an S, when you're literally paying that extra value up front to the tune of about 30-35%?

What I will add though is part of what's fueling these premiums is the fact that there are likely very few S cars that have similar specs, and they're probably going to be more expensive as well. What I'd recommend is that if you find a car you like, buy it whether it's an S or a GTS. It's been said several times on this board and more or less in this thread; focusing too much on resale means you're already looking at the next car.

I essentially have an NB GTS, as I have X51, SPASM, ect..... (original MSRP was $140k). I love the car, the only thing I plan on adding is the sport design front and duck tail. That all being said, had I come across a GTS in my price range, I would have bought it.
