Also FWIW... You can get to GTS performance numbers in a T a lot cheaper and more conveniently than you can add bucket seat to the GTS

But - it all depends on if this is a daily driver or a toy IMO.
I hate tuning. The thought of tuning your car just to make it what you want makes me wonder why someone bought it in the first place. Warranty aside, I won’t buy a car knowing that I’d need to tune it to justify it.

No argument here. We all have options and vote with our wallets. I was just making a point about this particular comparison and having the best of both worlds in a single package.

If I had a dollar for every post that starts "T vs. ___"... I could get that GT3 RS I have been lusting after. [Edit: I am ready for my 'grown up' car.]

I definitely understand. And the T checks that box. I think the T is under appreciated for sure

I think both are super cool cars. On the subject of LWBs in a regular 911, I think that is crazy personally. I’ve had plenty of cars with LWBs, but a set in a non-GT 911 seems quite absurd to me. It ruins the usefulness of the rear compartment. They are not nearly as comfortable for most as the 4 ways, the daily usefulness of the car is impacted substantially, and finally you’re taking an aggressive, fixed bucket and throwing it in a regular, relatively soft 911. The GT and non-GT cars could not feel any more different. While I love the LWBs in my RS which fit the persona of the car perfectly, they would be absurdly out of place in my GTS for my tastes. They are the antithesis of the GTS and regular 911s in my opinion.

I don’t fault anybody for getting or liking the LWBs in a T, but I personally don’t see that as any kind of benefit in the slightest.

How much lighter is a base T against a base GTS? 30 lbs?

As others have said, for a similar price you're definitely getting "more car" with a GTS (condition and PPI results being equal).

I personally think the T with RWS might offer a more engaging driving experience if you live somewhere with fun roads, and the GTS will be a better tourer/daily and if you get more enjoyment out of straight-line-acceleration.

As for holding values, it’s hard to predict - but T’s seem to have been doing all right in that regard, I don’t think you’ll take a bath on either.

I refuse to take the bait on the T being overrated

I drove the GTS. I hated the turbo lag but the wide body and center locks were interesting. I drove the T. Found it more responsive. More fun. More raw. I like the option and color offerings and interior trim better. I drove a base with a manual and there was a huge difference in overall feel compared to the T. I have owned and driven Porsche's and other performance cars my entire life. Your mileage may vary. I ordered a T.

Drive both. Understand that options drive feel to a large extent.

With regard to your builds. I would not buy a T with PDK. That is me.

I just bought my first Porsche, a Carrera T. When I made my purchase I was deciding between a 991.2 S, 991.1 GTS and the T. All were the same price with a similar spec. all were manual. The only real difference in the spec was that the T had the buckets. I have wanted a Porsche since I was a kid but I made the mistake of becoming a scientist, I got my Ph.D. in microbiology, worked at a hospital, then a small company, and now I work for the government directing research. So I make a reasonable income but it was a stretch to afford the car while putting kids through university. The main reason I bought the T was that it was nearly, new when I bought it, it had less than 100km on the clock and was 10 months old, and has warranty until 2025. The S I was looking at had 12,000 km on it and was 2 years old, two years of warranty. The GTS had 30,000km on it and was 4 years old and no warranty. So cost of ownership for the T over the next 3-5 years seemed lower to me - and that is why i chose it.

I love the car, driving it is a great way to clear my mind so I can analyze a bunch of data. .

There are no bad choices.

So you propose they build a franken-T? Instead of just buying the GTS? lol

Drive both. The GTS has more power but the suspension is tuned a little softer and the car therefore feels less "dynamic". The T has less power - but the powerband is more linear - and the suspension feels more "alive" (similar to the older air-cooled cars IMHO having driven one for 17 years). Drive both and you'll know which one is right. There is no wrong answer.

cheers!

Doesn't the GTS still have SPASM?

I couldn't agree with you more. The T is anything but overrated. In fact, it is under appreciated. Thus, I truly believe its value will increase with time.

Is he buying the car for himself or the next guy? He needs to sit in theses buckets and get in and out a few dozen times and decide what he thinks of them. Those 2 cars are quite different. He needs to drive them both. I think there will be a clear preference if he does drive them both.
