The transmission is probably more about preference. PDK is faster off the line, but I’ve heard 7MT can keep up on track. Consider whether you’ll upgrade the power and if the manual clutch can handle that increase. (Its PDK, duh.)

PDK doesn’t lose SPASM. And the lightweight glass is standard unless replaced by the regular rear window (with defrost).

Could use your opinion. I have an allocation for a GT4 RS (which hopefully has PDK-S) and I currently own a Carrera T (MT, RAS). I realistically can probably only have one sports car. I plan to track more often in the future. I do daily my T but if I get a GT4 RS, would likely get a cheap truck or something.

Of the two, which one would you own if you really could only have one?

Also, to the OP, unless you trade the 992 for the T, I wouldn’t have both. I bet the 992 will be just as fun on the track. However, if you can have a dedicated street and track car, I’d maybe go the route of mid engine for the track as above.

FWIW - I had a T and GT4 for a little while, but my track time was going in the opposite direction (6-10 events per year down to one or two), and I ended up selling the GT4 and keeping the T.

Some factors to consider:
1. Track performance/experience most important, tracking frequently? +1 GT4*
2. Enthusiast/C&C 'cred'? + 1 GT4
3. Engine sound very important? +1 GT4
4. Condition of your fun backroads/canyon roads - are they lumpy? +1 T
5. Importance of back seats and practicality for longer tours/trips? + 1 T
6. Enjoy low-down torque? +1 T
7. Looks - subjective
8. Feelings on turbocharging - best not to get into that here.

* My game plan when I get back into DE is to get a well-used 981 or 987S and sort it properly for the track; it would cost about as much as I would lose on a trade-up to a GT4RS and I could thrash it with wild abandon and still enjoy the T on the back roads.

I've thought about getting a CPO GT4. I'm just a 911 guy through & through. I can't help it.

I'm a mid-engined guy (can't help it, it's in my nature whether 914, Boxster, or CGT...or Lotus, for that matter), but I sold my GT4 to get a 991.2 Carrera and have never regretted that decision. I find the 991.2 chassis more interesting and more fun in use…that classic challenge/reward thing with the 911. I guess I should say I am a reformed mid-engined guy.

And then there's the drivetrain, which I find to be superior…

How did you get an allocation for a GT4 RS? I was at my dealership yesterday and they could not confirm a production date for the RS. Is your dealer just "reserving" you a spot for when the production date is announced and allocations are given out or does your dealer know something mine does not? I'm trying to figure out a way to get an allocation for a GT4 RS but no luck so far......

Bret a friend of mine has an 'allocation' from his local dealer in Michigan, basically, its not confirmed, but they know theyll get x allocations. They are promising him one. Once its in writing he can put cash down. That's what he told me when I asked him about it.

To the OP, if you are doing as much as 60-80 commuting, I would keep the 992 and set it up for dual duty. Personally I like the idea of a T with the MT (i know you want the PDK and its makes 200% sense for track) but you also said youd keep for the long haul. I think it would be the only way I'd keep one.

I went from a 981CS manual with PASM and PTV to the 991.2 T. I have had a lot of time in the GT4 as well. The 991.2 is way more engaging to drive.

I know this sounds strange but the 981 was almost too competent on the street. The super long gearing did not help.

For my mid engine needs I have a tuned Alfa 4C, a real adrenaline car ;-)

I should have said "allocation" with quotes. @911. is correct in my situation (same). I'm on the list for their allocation, I have not put any money down yet. @stout going to do what you told me previously and see where it goes. Every way I look at it, the T just keeps being "that car" for me and most.

UPDATE: Took the first step towards possible T ownership. I put my 992 on consignment with my dealership. I am now on the fence as to whether or not I should get a 992 C2S with 4-way/18-way sport-tex seats to help with tracking, or purchasing the T on the lot. Once the car is sold; and if the T is still available, I am going to buy it. If it's sold, I will re-order an S.

That may be an option as well after my 992 sells. I'm just leaning towards the T since it's brand new. Only considering a 992 re-order because my dealer is giving me a deal on it.

There are a lot of issues that the dealer has created with my 992 as well. Issues I would not like to air out on the forum. Let's just say the dealership is trying to right some wrongs.

In regards to a GT3. I can't seem to find anything under $115k for a 991.

edit: forgot to answer your question. Yes. I once drove a 2016 991 GT3RS with LWBS, PCCB, A/C delete, & nav delete.

Hello everyone,

I just bought my first Porsche. 2019 Carrera T. It was purchased from a dealer 1500km away from my home and the car only has 103km on the clock. Can't wait to drive it. It has been interesting reading this thread. I will post pictures once it is delivered on Friday.
