I understand the desire for no roof, but Id advise against this. Personally - I would never buy a car on resale that had a major modification like this ^
Mods are ok, but I want my cars to match the build sheet.
I’ve seen people do SMG/DCT/TIP to manual swaps as well - I would not touch a car like that.
If the goal is no sunroof better to just find a factory no roof car.
I have one - DM me and I’ll sell it to you $5k over its market value so you dont have to cut the roof off of a perfectly good T.
i hear you. i think the difference is this isn't a mechanical change. it can be reverted. there's no mechanical or functional impact to any other aspects of the car. it's not the same as a transmission swap where you're very fundamentally changing the mechanics of a car.
that said, to reclarify, i would only do this if i expected to keep the car beyond the point of max depreciation....i'm not concerned with resale value at that point.
Thus him saying, if I decided to keep the T forever. We're envisioning highly modded cars that are kept for
10's of thousands of miles. Sold for nothing because of high miles, to an enthusiast who appreciates the mods. Losing a sunroof is no different than a Carrera T making 600hp.

FYI, I spoke to Porsche Classic in ATL this morning about the Sunroof. He said 1. They cant work on anything newer than 996. And 2. They can’t modify anything the factory defines as structural modification (even though he acknowledged it's not technically structural) to comply with NHTSA. But he said finding a dealer with a Porsche approved body shop to do it wouldn’t be hard. But he recommends doing it once the warranty is expired if I did it. Really nice guy who acknowledged rarely does it make logical financial sense to do anything anyone with this shared disease of Porsche obsession does. I asked out of curiosity what does a typical restoration at Porsche Classic cost. He said “we tell people to budget $350,000 and budget a contingency to go up to $500,000... they never ever make financial sense. You’re always better off finding a properly sorted car from the start, but it’s always like “it was my grandpas car” or something to that effect.”
he was like "trust me. i've heard it all. nothing is crazy. this is our shared disease."
i also find it interesting that Achletiner or Preuninger, I can't remember which one, said a T with a sunroof was the perfect 911. i'll use that to make me feel a little better about my 60 lbs of glass over my head.

i recall a thread somewhere someone actually looked up weights and it was only like 24 lbs more than “delete”. steel sunroof was 19 or 20 lbs. i’ll try and find it.

yeah that's the panel. i think the glass is like 3 lbs more than steel/aluminum whatever it is. i don't know how much the motors/tracks weigh. presumably those are steel to be able to carry the weight and recurring load of the motors. i've genuinely never opened my sunroof once. or even the shade for that that matter.

yeah those were numbers given to me by my service tech - good point, I did not clarify if that was only the panel or whole system
