I can only speak for myself but when my car is backed into the garage on the lift and I start it up to take it out, the fumes are pretty noticeable. My wife often makes comments about the house smelling if I were to open the door into the home shortly after. Driving around, I honestly cant tell a difference-its moving it in and out of the garage for me that the smell is noticeable. For comparisons sake when I had my Supra with a big turbo and no cats-you can smell it at all times, driving around, start up, etc.
Guess I'll stick with the Soul sport cats.
I like that you can spit fire with catless, I don't think it will happen with 200cel cats

I’m in the UK. I somehow thought that the US were tougher than us on emission regulations etc?

Well to be clear, there's a big difference between "required inspection" and illegal. The fact is, all states have some form of emissions requirements. Now, how they enforce is where the disparity is. I will tell you this, if you get pulled over and ticketed for a loud exhaust in CA, you basically have to put the car back to stock to get it signed off. So, it really boils down to your own comfort level of risk as far as getting caught. And for the green peace peeps, I guess you should care about your pollution level too.

my attitude is unless porsche had a limiting factor (emissions) as a reason they had to do something (adding cats, a restrictive element) there's no reason to change what porsche did very well.

random visual inspections don't really happen on high dollar vehicles. that's more of a rickety honda buzzing down the road thing.

Evo Magazine recently posted their review of the Litchfield kit for the T on twitter: https://www.evo.co.uk/porsche/911/20...a-t-991-review
I would love to have a go in one to compare, but what was interesting about the write up is how complementary they were about the T in bone stock form... "Some saw it as a marketing exercise, others as a purist 911 for those who couldn’t afford a GT3. However, with its slim shape, narrower and less sticky tyres and less care for aero and lap times, it was arguably the purist 911 of the range, full stop ... I drove a T recently on some fabulous roads and loved its sweet balance and the way the chassis could soak up the power and allow you to carry speed and work on driving with accuracy and flow. It made me feel very sorry for the competition ... I love how the standard T feels like a scratcher – you can drive the wheels off it, commit early and hard to the throttle, and the chassis just eats it up"

Having owned a .2 GT3 manual, a 50th manual, and a Carrera T manual, not sure how one could put a 50th at the two spot. Jonny never seems to know what he's talking about.

”The GT3 just shocked me. Besides the transmission, there's another physical difference between the PDK-automatic-equipped GT3 and the manual—the locking differential. On the (also stellar) PDK version, the rear-end locks via hydraulic fluid. Makes sense, as all the plumbing for the dual-clutch is already back there. With the manual, the GT3 has a mechanical locking diff, and it's supernatural. Hard braking, and downshifting into any corner with just the slightest angle on the wheel, points the snout in the direction you'll be heading. Utter sorcery. Feels awesome, too.”

The E dif can go from full lock to full open instantly. The mechanical dif cannot. You can notice the difference on hard braking into a turn.
