So let me get this straight. A few uber-connected VIP types said no 3rs and a few said yes .2 3rs. So moral of the story is that a broke clock is right twice a day and most that claim they know, at best are broken clocks.
But we will fill up hundreds of future RL pages pandering to the next uber connected cleaning lady drivel.
Glad there's another NA 3rs and I'll bet there's more to come in 992.

the front wheels of the RS in the pics are the silver wheels with polished surfaces that are standard now on the .2 gt3 !!

Lots of GT's in the pipeline in a shortened .2 run.
992 will be upon us before we know it.
There has to be some NA options going into next gen 992. Don't think they'll be chasing the HP game too hard correct? How much more do you really need?
Maybe having an NA niche will serve them well?

Volumetric efficiency is why torque falls off at higher RPM.
For normally aspirated engines the maximum volumetric efficiency is around 130-135%. Once you hit that brick-wall, you have to increase displacement to increase peak torque. Basically make room for more air and fuel to combust.

I personally think that Porsche will continue to make a NA GT3 with a manual option for the next 20 years or more.
The only question I have concerns the RS, as the RS is 1-their top track car which directly competes with the best of Mclaren, Ferarri, AMG, Lambo, etc for Ring times and in magazine competitions, and 2- the RS is supposed to be derived directly from their race cars, and I think the Porsche race cars will be going turbo in the next 2-3 years, particularly as Porsche has been losing races lately.
So while I have every confidence that the GT3 will continue to be made as a NA drivers car with a track focus, but also a manual option, for decades to come, I"m not sure what Porsche will do with the RS starting with the 992 generation.
I think merging the GT3RS with the GT2RS makes the most sense, but I really don't know. Maybe they'll make the GT2RS at their top track car but not limited editions of the GT2RS anymore, because it will be homologation of their race cars, but now start making a limited edition NA GT3RS once every 911 generation?
Just listen to the drivetribe interview with AP and how he describe all the things besides displacement that increase horsepower on the .2 GT3, the new drilled crankshaft and new valvetrain with 20% less resistance both of which that require less oil pressure and so less engine resistance, new piston bore liner that reduces reduces engine resistance increased air through the ram intakes, etc. And that's not even considering modifications you could do like headers and cats.
With modern engines including this 4.0L engine, there are lots of engineering options that can improve horsepower without increasing the max RPM beyond 9000, particularly with an engine that already makes its max horsepower at 8250 anyway.

However, you don't have to increase displacement for more horsepower, there are many ways to skin that cat.

Surprised they are upstaging the .2GT3 with this and drawing attention and sales from 2RS also. If I was ordering a .2GT3 I would be "WTF".
Maybe it will be a LE? It will have to offer more than 25hp more. Maybe active aero and LE?
Real intrigue is mid engined GT on horizon with 992 my bet.

.2 RS is coming, and will be announced next spring.
I expect a normal not LE production run. Dealers who paid over MSRP to buy .1RS from other dealers will lose money on .1RS but make even more on .2RS as there will be a huge craze over the .2RS likely being the last NA RS.

Porsche won't increase redline or displacment as neither is necessary for another 25HP and either would increase risk of engine failures and Porsche engineers are quite capable of getting another 25hp out the 4.0L GT3/RSR/R engine with same 9K redline.
And as NateOz mentioned, the peak power is already 750 below 9000rpm right now. Increasing the max RPM won't accomplish anything.

Porsche can raise their prices adding 20 - 30k to MSRP adding cf aero etc and it's justified plus if they trickle in expect same addition by the dealers as you stated it will be a huge craze. Just glad I got a PTS RS the brain damage of the RS is crazy.

i guess also: we have to prepare ourself again for a two-digits price increase. if the .2RS will be worth this extra charge compared to a .1RS? i guess not.
compared with the market and competition. for sure yes.
if they pack in extra fancy goodie/material stuff - it will be +15% MSRP increase.
they done it on the .2GT3 and will do it even higher on the RS.
prepare yourself for 200k€+ inkl. VAT in Germany as a starting-price. (182k€ inkl. 19% VAT was the .1RS).
i´m speaking about not LE.
