I hope you get full recovery including downtime money...

In a funny sort of way this shop is probably safer now than any other shop will be... it's like a major airline that had a major safety infraction... they are safer to fly after than before as they get paranoid about safety... you bet they will never do this again, while others may...

I think he got punished and tarnished enough, if he's a good shop with good skills then I would trust him, he learned his lesson... but then again I'm a contrarian...

I think this is a fallacy. If it was a single episode, a lapse in judgement, that would be one thing. That's something that can be rectified. The mentality that allows a systemic pattern of bad behavior like this will not allow any kind of durable, meaningful change in behavior. Human beings don't act that way, unfortunately.

Irresponsible people tend to be irresponsible. We all assume that BHR is stunned and having a coming to Jesus moment about this. For all we know, they are just brushing it off and moving on.

Screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me.
his irresponsible mentality allowed him to treat customers cars like crap and I doubt that would change if he felt he could get away with it...drive it to a different neighborhood at night for example.

I hear you guys, but you are all assuming that your shop (and mine) has never done anything of the like... which I think is highly unlikely... they just weren't caught doing it...

I've never heard of anyone crashing (and likely totaling) a $250K car and not getting caught for it have you?

He did more than just "get caught" joy riding didn't he??

I've actually heard of numerous bankers crashing a lot more expensive stuff than that and not getting caught but that's another story...

Precisely right, he got caught because he crashed it... that's my point...

IF you joy ride AND crash the thing THEN you are guaranteed to get caught

IF you joy ride AND do NOT crash the thing THEN you are NOT guaranteed to get caught

When you drop off your car with your favorite shop, you may never know if it was "tested" hard because it was not crashed or because none of your buddies were there to see it... you just have to trust them... like you trust the cook and the servers at your favorite place to wash their hands after they take a leak...

I don't trust them... and I happen to believe that most gearhead shops will run the equipment harder than every owner wished they had... borderline unethical? sure ... that's the life of having toys...

Now, while my heart goes out to the poor owner, and it does, if you were to send a copy of this thread overseas to the men and women serving our country and defending our freedom so we can sit here and screw around with GT3s, I wonder what their response would be...

I think they would love to trade places with us and would say that **** happens, no one died, now get over it...

am I alone in this outlook ?

^^^^ I think you're a bit off topic here my friend. Dragging bankers and service men/women into the fold. This is a car forum, no need to try and draw analogies here.

Here are the FACTS:

Shop owner recklessly joyrides customers car.

Shop owner crashes the car into building due to reckless driving involving no other vehicle.

Shop owner now has to bear responsibility and consequences of his actions.

Very cut and dry.

Let's move on.

Yes, I trust the service advisor and technician who I know well at my Porsche dealer not to do the dumb *** things Aaron Holstrom did on his 4hr joyride like launch the car, have traction control off, doing 75mph in a 25mph zone, come close to pedestrians, and smashing into a building when ripping around a corner.

If my dealer betrays my trust, they will pay dearly. Fair enough?

There's nothing else to say. Goodnight.

This is exactly why I haven't brought any of my cars in for repair in almost 15 years.

I feel bad for the owner and I hope you get made whole. I feel bad for the customers who bring their car there and think they're getting good service. I bet these reckless "Italian tuneups" happen quite often without the customers knowledge.

My shop has two buildings full of expensive race cars and was the crew on a couple winning Rolex 24 teams so I doubt my car is much temptation to them. No idea when they'd have time to joyride all those cars in between getting them ready for races.
