991 GT2RS

For comparison, spy shots of .1 3RS had louvres covered and one set of canards:
Recent 2RS photos showing louvres active plus two sets of canards:
Although to be fair other versions of these 2RS mules did not have any canards:

car will need lots of front downforce to avoid wheelies.
front downforce is always harder to generate, because technically it only has about 18" of travel from the front of the nose to the front axle of the car.
when it was permissible from a design standpoint to have a longer front overhand (ENZO) then you could be more elegant with the front end but now cars like the 919LMP1 show exactly how blunt you need to make certain elements of the nose/front end in order to keep the front axle stuck to the ground at speed.

it's not a GT2 if it has AWD.
600-700hp is no problem RWD. Porsche will put 335 tires on the back. with a good differential most people will be able to drive them just fine.
having had the 675LT and P1 on track extensively, they are not impossible to drive but if you try to drive them like they are a nissan GTR you will end up tires up and roof down.

My guess is the 991GT2RS will have nannies to watch over the driver and as such the car will be relatively easy to drive all the while setting blistering times. Can't wait to see this thing and hope fully they won't all be collector garage C&C queens and will find their way to the track.

This ^^. I track a street legal 996 based car with a 3.8L twin turbo that puts 600hp/675tq to the ground which translates to 700/750 crank. The car is on a Cup chassis with lot of aero, 10/13" wheels shod with 275/335 tires, an aggressive Guard LSD, and a Cup ABS. Proper set up is key. There are zero nannies and the car is very easy to drive assuming you are a competent driver with experience tracking high hp cars. Yes to a novice is would be deadly but so would any high hp rwd car. It is very fast and easily dispatches any variant of GT3 I've ever run with, 997 or 991. Not even close. the more downforce the less nannies you need.

From past history (991 GT3) this grouping of prototype "GT2RS" caught "in the wild" would signify that we are no more than 2-3 month away from a "reveal". My guess is this car will break cover in 991.2 guise very shortly, perhaps as early as September Frankfurt show....

...if not Frankfurt then almost definately in March at Geneva Salon with the 991.2 GT3 as a double GT debut like last year with the 991 GT3RS & Cayman 981 GT4...

Question is. If guys really want forced induction cars- (which I'm not ready for yet) - what makes the gt2 better than every other turbo car out there? Ex maclaren, 488, etc.
#265
That's the challenge for Porsche, I'm skeptical they get it there with the 991.2. Especially since the other guys have stuck to hydraulic steering and are much more likely to strip significant weight for their track versions.

Never underestimate Porsche. Big aero. Big power. Big tires. Rear wheel steering. Watch out 675 LT, it's coming for you.

From a marketing perspective, this would make a lot of sense to me. Debut the .2 GT2RS along with a "lesser" .2 GT3 together. Doing so preserves the story line that FI is supreme (a hierarchy that is now necessary given the rest of the turbocharged model range), while still permitting NA engines to remain as a choice for drivers.

We'll see. The magic of the 675LT is that fully loaded with fuel and road ready, she's about 3000lbs. Which means she's 100's of lbs lighter than anything else on the road at that power level.
GT3RS is ~ 3200 (and down 170hp)
CGT is 3350
Viper ACR is ~3350-3400
488 is about 3250-3300
Huracan is 3400
AUDI R8 V10 is 3750
Aventador SV is 3900
Having around 600HP-700HP is nice but the GT2RS to truly compete will need either insane aero (viper) or be just as light as the 3RS.
You'd think all the turbo plumbing and extra cooling for the mega HP would put the car 100-150lbs heavier than the 3RS.
The big thing up Porsches sleeve is they can always just keep throwing bigger and bigger tires and suspension on it to try to increase grip to a factor that it can mechanically get to the ACR level if not the weight level.

Perhaps this in part will lead PAG to severely restrict production (maybe even numbered cars) to increase "desirability" for these cars. This strategy has worked extremely well for the R, which would otherwise have a harder time selling if released simultaneously within a larger pool of NA MT .2 GT3 cars. Sorry if I sound cynical, I'm not. Just reality.
